  • Reusing Applicator Pads

I have had my G-100 for a year now. When I bought it at from a Meguiars rep at a car show he said store used pads after use in a open plastic bag. I have had good luck with this. Shold I be washing them after each use???

i believe megs doesn't recommend washing them, though many still do (velcro coming off). after i'm done using them, i let them soak in a bucket with dishwash soap (dawn, etc..) for about 15-20 minutes, and then slowly massage the product out of the pad, and then squeeze (not wring) all the water out. after that... i let them lay on top of the grit guard to dry and then into a sealed ziploc bag they go...

For me, I allow the pad to soak in some soapy detergent water for a little bit, then gently agitate the surface foam with a brush.

If I havent over used product I can typically do 2 runs of my car on a pad beofre it gets over loaded with product.

Oddly I keep the WAX 9006 pads in a open Zip Lock, and my #21 pad molded in under a week

Given that its a wax and isnt too susptable to water, I have seen at other sites that list products for cleaning wax from foam pads.

Had anyone tried this stuff ?

I have used the dawn and simple green with some sucess but, the pad can still be a bit "icky" when done.

All the other stuff ( 80 83, 84, 9, 7 ) all come clean with a little water and dawn or simple green.

I always wash the pads by hand after use, the velcro has never come of when doing this(LC and Cyclo pads). Polishes and cleaners are easy to get out of the pads, wax and sealants can be harder.
I let them airdry and store them in a plastic container.

When it comes to buying a "Pad Cleaner" it mat be cheaper to just replace pads after several uses. The cost of pad cleaner and one more product to add to my collection of products is to much. I have had good use out of not washing and storing in open zip lock. I my wash before i buy new to see if i like that. Thanks for the info it is very helpful.
