  • G100 for Australia

Hey all, I have posted this in a couple of threads without replies and was wondering if I could get some technical data.

I would like the Meguiars G100 but as I live in Australia and the Australian Meguiars has never heard of it (before I talked to them) and can't get it I was wondering the following....

    1) Lifetime warranty: would I have to send it back to the US or could I send it to the Australian one if I have problems?

    2) Voltage and Wattage: what are the voltage and wattage of the G100 so I can see if they are compatable to Australian power grid.

    3) Those great little bonnets that go over the red PC pad are unheard of here in Australia,
    a. can I get a product number/code so I can ask the Australian Meg's if they can order them in.
    b. how many come in a carton? As my local repco store says they can order me in all meg's products...so if I can get the AU Meg's to get some then I can get some as well.

So far I have brought a carton of each of the following
*Microfibre Wipes (singlely as my supplier didn't know about the 3 packs and them being cheaper)
*100% terry towel (didn't know about the gold class ones as we can only get the crappy normal ones)
    *Applicator pads
*Have on order W8006 just waiting for them to arrive.

Also can you get the PC Pads in the 6" (125mm) in the other types other than the yellow? or do I have to get the 8" ones and try to make them fit to my 125mm Polisher?

Thanks for your time and I hope to have many years of Meguirs use.

There are a couple of alternatives to the G100 that is available. You would need a power convertor (available from Dick Smith) to bring the voltage down.

    Alternatives:

GMC NLEROS about $40 dollars from Big W
    Bosch PEX400AE about $160
    Hitachi FSV13Y
    and a few others

The 6.5" pads only come in yellow.

As for using the bonnets over the red pads, I use a cheap orbital buffer with 10" buffing pads.

If you are having problems getting some products, let me know and I'll see what I can do as I deal with a supplier that gets products directly from Megs Aus.

      Thanks Chrisx,

My biggest problem is that I only detail motorcycles and friends cars when I have too...I have found the 125mm pads to be able to do the work really well but I would prefer something smaller.

Thanks for the Alternatives, I will go out and have a look at them and see if they would suite or not.

Heh, just replied to a similar thread.

I recently bought the Bosch PEX400AE myself, which will mostly be used for final polishing and applying/removing wax, as I have a rotary also.

Btw, a 6,5" pad is roughly 165 mm, a 5" backing plate is 125 mm.

The 6,5" pads comes in all colors Seriously from Meg's they are called W7006, 8006 and 9006. If you can't find them locally you can order them online, same with bonnets.

It's also possible to get 4" pads (not from Meg's though), but the problem is you can't get a small enough backing plate for most DA polishers.

What kind of polisher do you currently use?

For machine use I use a Ryobi Random Orbital Sander ERO400VK that has a velco base that is small than the backing of the W8006 velco base. Its small, easy to use 1 handed and has variable speed.

The problem comparing it to the G100 is warranty. 2years for ryobi an dlifetime with G100.

The W7006, 8006 and 9006 are not available in Australia according to the sales rep for the QLD area and the only available ones are the W7000, 8000, 9000 which are all 8". The same goes for the cool little bonnets. I brought the lambs wool for my rotory connection for my drill and I wasn't very impressed with it use for removing wax after its applied and dried or for buffing Nxt Gene Metal Polish after its been hand applied and buffed.

From memory the bonnet that Mick Phillips shows is microfibre and wouldn't have any cuttind action where the lambs wool pad does. It goes the same with many other Australian car products...they are used to buff scratches not to litely remove a dried wax coating.

Meguiars Online in the US will not ship its products to Australia as I have already asked that question and was told to talk to the AUstralian Meguiars and see if they could order some in and then redistribute them to my supplier but Meguiars Australia said there was no chance of that happening for either the W8006, 7006, 9006 or the microfibre bonnets.

It's the same in my country, very limited selection, and also often knowledge, when it comes to detailing.

Yeah lambs wool definitely isn't good for buffing off wax, it will tend to introduce new buffer swirls.

I know Meg's US won't ship internationally, but there are other places. The shipping is quite expensive, but the prices often more than makes up for it
