  • Very Impressed

    Hello everyone!

Just finished using the G100 for the first time on my '05 Mustang GT and I must say that I am very impressed with the results. Is it perfect? No. Are all the swirl marks out? Using the two most visible spots (the hood and roof) as a barometer, I would say that there is a definite improvement but some are still there and that is okay. I'll get 'em next time. Thanks to all who have posted questions, thoughts, etc. for they have been a big help. A big thanks to Mike, the Show Car Garage dvd was invaluable.

    Regards,
    Jon Purdy

    Jon:

Glad to hear about that. I just used my G100 this weekend and I had similar results. I didn't get the finish 100% swirl free, but I put a big hurtin' on them.

Any quick tips for a first time user tomorrow? I got my G100 in the mail on Thursday and can't wait to use it. Unfortunately the DVD that was supposed to come with the buffer was not in the box. I am bummed, but I can't wait for the DVD to show up. I am going nuts just looking at the buffer.

Stick with #80 for your cleaning/polishing the first time.

Move arms slow, and dont dry buff, err on the side of not quite breaking down the polish enough.

        Work on a 1.5 x 1.5 foot area at a time.

I agree with Murr. I did my first whole car with the G100 yesterday. 12 hrs... I did the whole car with 83 and then 80 on the hood (too tired to do the whole car with 80). The car came out really nice. But I think I could have gotten very similar results with just 80. 80 was much easier to use for me and as a beginner I probably should have started with that.

Anyway to add to the tips... Make sure you stretch, my triceps and back are pretty sore today..........

            Re: Very Impressed

I find that making sure each hand is doing a separate job will increase the work done, and of course, the results are that much better. If I keep my left hand holding the handle and applying a straight downward pressure and using my right hand to stabilize and guide the buffer at it's base, that I am able to cut the product down that much faster.

The only problem that I am experiencing is that the product seems to get absorbed into the pad, so I guess I'm moving the buffer too slowly and/or applying too much pressure. I am now spraying QD on the pad four times and priming it with a long and liberal bead. I am not seeing any micromarring or I am not experiencing any negative feedback from the buffer (dry buff).

Heck I'm probably doing it perfectly and just didn't know what to expect from these products and their combination.

Murr gave you some great tips, and I'd just like to add that you also need to keep that pad clean throughout your polishing session. Before you move on to the next session, wipe that pad off really well with a good terry cloth. Inspect to make sure that you're not saturating any spots by using too much polish. This segues into the next tip: do not use too much product! This is easy to do, and may leave an unclear finish due to not having fully broken down all of the polish. Most importantly, HAVE Fun and enjoy the fact that you're doing it yourself

              Almost forgot, to MOL!!
