  • How to detail a new vehicle with the G-100?

Friday afternoon, I became the lucky owner of a brand new Inferno Red Crystal Pearl 2006 Charger SRT-8.

I have not had a chance to detail a completely new vehicle since I discovered this site and bought my G-100, so this is a first for me

So I now have a beautiful fresh new canvas to work with and would like to know how I should start off.

I think I have the first and last steps, but not sure of the middle step or steps

I plan on starting off with a good wash and then clay, followed with another wash.

I also planned on finishing with 2 coats of NXT applied 24 hours apart.

Now, what should be the middle step?

    I have both 80 and 83.

After washing, do I need to first use the 83 and then the 80, or is the 83 too much for the new surface? Should I skip the 83 and go from wash to 80, then top with 2 coats of NXT?

Or should I skip both 80 and 83 and go with a pure polish such as 07?

Please help an excited owner out!!!

    * I tried to put this on the Detailing 101 board, but for some unknown reason, I couldn't get the board to open.

Start with #80. Unless the delaer put in some crazy swirls, that should be all you need.

Only use #83 if that wont remove and defects after a pass or two of #80.

First off, and please understand that I mean this in the best possible way......I sorta hate you a little right now. I want that car gosh darn it!!!!

Now that that's off my chest ........I agree with Murr1525 in that you shouldn't need anything more aggressive than #80 unless you notice some especially nasty spots that just won't budge. On this first go I'd skip the #7 and judge the results with #80 finished with NXT or #21. Being that #7 is a pure polish it won't remove any fine swirls you may have in the finish and you really want to get rid of those right away and show off that new ride!

What about using # 80 followed by # 7 and then two coats of #21? What is the opinion of # 21 versus NXT wax- pros & cons??

You certainly can use #80 then #7. Some people will be able to see a difference, some wont, so you should try it on one panel and see if you can tell any difference.

As far as Nxt or #21, Nxt is supposed to be the longest lasting, but #21 seems to keep its looks longer.

I really like #21, and I wax often enough that a little difference in longevity is no big deal.

A customer of mine just got a new Charger and picked it up from the dealer without them touching it. I told him to have them leave the plastic on the interior , no dealer advertisments , and do not have them wash the car.So when he got it home i just washed it , clayed , and hit it with some #21 and the flakes were just popping out of his black paint..sorry no pics. I applied and removed the #21 with a p/c and it came out excellant ,so you might not need to hit it with #80 or #83..depending on how the dealership washed it for delivery.

              Awesome buy!

My parents have the 300C SRT-8.

Once you get past break-in milage, go somewhere nice and open - put the pedal to the floor and listen to the exhaust on that puppy. I looooove the nice "dump" the exhaust has when it shifts.
