  • Took the PC plunge...NEWBIE

After reading on this site most of the night and today..I ran out and bought the PC 7336..Just could not wait (should have)

Now I have a new toy and no pads..The PC did come with a pad but after more reading and experimenting..Not really worth a poop.

So, here are my questions...Well, let me explain my paint issues first.

2 new trucks..Wifes BLACK trailblazer and my new Silverado (red)/Burgendy type color. Anyway..The trailblazer is hurting..She has had it about 6 mos and brings it to a car wash to get clean..(not anymore) Being black..Swirls and scratch galore. I did try the PC pad and some Deep Crystal #1...No cigar..Did ok on spots with no swirls etc but not good enough.

My silverado has never been to a car wash..Only hand washed..(maybe dealer ran it thru car wash? Mine is 2006 3 months old..Paint looks pretty good but some swirls and lite scratches.

Products to use????? I need pads and backer plates I assume for the PC.. See if I have this right

    W-64DA Backing Plate
    W-8006 Polishing pad
    W-9006 Finishing pad
W-7006 not sure what this pad is??

Am I right? Am I missing something?

    I also assume I need :
    M80
    M83

Not sure how to use these yet but am still reading.

What am I forgetting..Also ordered the video from Mike on the use of all this. Being impatient..I'm sure I'll play around till I get the video.

Should I just use the DC #1 on the newer silverado? I want the paint to look like glass. Or, use 80 or 83..Still havn't figured out what order yet

After using 80 or 83..Do I go right into the NXT wax? I plan on had waxing because I'm on a budget Can I use the same pads for each truck or do I get new pads for each ride? (ouch)

Look forward to any and all suggestions and opinions. Just got back from a 2000 mile trip with the silverado and took me most of the day to get all the darn bugs off! Whew..The clay worked great!

Lastly..Not sure wher to get all this stuff..Most local auto parts stores just have the basic line and not the 80 or 83..If I order online..Can I get it by next weekend ..Where is the best place to order from? I live in Michigan and will try local car paint places Monday..I'm doubtfull I'll find anything local

Thanks a million in advance. Great site for sure!

You can use the same pad on each truck, but not the same product. Thus you will need 2x8006, one for the 80 and one for the 83. If you don't plan on using the pc to apply and remove wax you can skip the 7006 and the 9006 pads.

The 7006 is the maroon cutting pad and shouldn't be used by a PC because it will install hazing that the PC cannot remove. The only time you use this is with a microfiber bonnet over the top to remove wax.

The 9006 can be used either for fine polishing (Meg's #82, which is a finer grit then #80) or for applying wax. If you plan to skip #82 as #80 will do a great job and you don't plan on waxing by hand you can skip this also.

Make sure you clay the surfaces before you polishing them, so get a good clay. Also spring for some quality microfibers.

Yes, you can go straight to wax after removing #80, infact, #80 is very rich in polishing oils, so you don't have to use a dedicated polish for great results.

Just got off the phone with the local detailing place..Looks like my order for pads and backer plate as well as #80 and #83 will be here Tuesday at 10:00 am...Woooohooooo

Now I gotta find the will power to wait for the DVD I have on the way or experiment a bit on my own

#80 is probably the easiest of the two polishes (#80 and #83) to use.

You wont hurt anything, go out and try a panel if the stuff arrives awhile beforethe DVD. At least you'll know what they are talking about on the DVD then.

I was amazed what Mike did with that Corvette with just using #80. I wanted to order #80 and #83 but now I'll just go out and go for #80 alone as I'm confident it'll do the job.

One reason he was able to do that with 80 is because it was single stage paint. Clear coats are general much harder and require more aggresive techniques to get the job done, IMO. 83 is alittle bit more of a PIA as it splatters more and works shorter, but I have used to achieve stunning results.

Get a small amount of the 83 I guess, but I would definetly get it.

It's always a good idea to have both M83 and M80 in your arsenal so that you'll be able to tackle most of whatever comes your way.
