  • The 3-5-5 "Rule of Thumb"

Last week at the Mechanicsburg class, Mike mentioned a rule of thumbe for applying/removing products with the G-100. Of course, I can't remember it exactly.

    I think it goes:

Speed 3: Apply 80/83, and the like
    Speed 5: Apply wax
    Speed 5: Remove wax

Is that correct? I know there are variables, bu I'm interested in the general rule fo thumb

    3-for applying waxes
    5-for removing them
    5-for polishing

    You had it alittle backwards

Thanks TH. I applied 80 yesterday. I stared out with Speed 3 but the products wasn't being worked in properly so I bumped it up to 4 and it worked better.

Today, I applied M21 using Speed 4 and it seemed to work pretty well. I guess 5 would have spread it out a little better because I noticed that it wasn't drying as quickly as I expected.

I am taking a break before I remove it. I'll be sure to use Speed 5.

Here are the speeds and the order you usually use them.

          5.0 Remove swirls and scratches
3.0 Apply and spread out wax
5.0 Remove wax with a bonnet

Just to double check, is this a constant speed 5?

Not say speed 2 to spread, step up to speed 5 for the rest of the work?

#21 can be an exeption to the rule of staying at speed 3 for applying waxes/LSP's. Since it can also be applied via rotary, it is formulated to stay "wetter" for longer. You could probably use speed 5 for applying #21, but with most (all?) other LSP's you wouldn't want to go above speed 3. The lower speed is fine with #21 also, I usually apply it by hand which works great, and that would probably be equal to about speed 0.1 on the PC

I like speed 4 to 4.5 for NXT. Stays wet plenty long to spread.
