  • backing plate question

I popping in here for a quick question. Does anyone know if the non-Meguairs velcro backing plate offered by Auto Detailing Solutions is better than the Meguiar's one. Just wondering because the G100 arrived last night and i noticed it came with a different backing plate. Can't wait til finals are over in 3 weeks so i can try it on dad's car.

    Mike

PS: Do the finishes on 2004 Cadillac Devilles tend to be on the soft or hard side. May have to order #83 if it is hard. Have #80 though. Thanx

While there is no one definite answer in every case...

...if it's factory finish, those are very hard paints. They don't mar too easily, but removing the marks is more work than on the average finish. M80 works very well on these paints. Anything less aggressive does very little with the DA, but you might consider M82 or M09 if the finish is nearly new looking.

Going on the assumption that it's factory paint with some mild-moderate needs for correction:

Start with the M80 on a W8006 pad. It will leave a nice finish, even if it doesn't remove every last little defect. You can go directly to your wax/sealant after M80.

If you do use M83, you'll definitely need to follow with M80 on such a vehicle with factory paint.

Incidentally, what color is the Cadillac?
