  • Backing plate Failure?

I have a megs velcro DA backing plate that is about 1.5 years old. Working on my car this weekend none of my pads were attaching properly. they would attach initially buit them detach at different times. one detached during use resulting in scrathced oin my car that I thankfully was abole to correct.

Anyone else have this problem. I am a little disappointed in a backiong plate that only lasts less than 2 years with limited use!!!

BTW I use megs pads as well that are the same age!

I found this site and was wondering if I could buy this replacement part???

I love Meguiars products but the backing plates leave much to be desired.

Backing plates from your local auto body shop supply store will work. Look for Mirka or Bulldog backing plates. Those are the ones we use.

        Re: Backing plate Failure?

If you feel its a manufacture defect feel free to send the backing plate back to me. I'd be more than happy to replace it. To extend the life of the backing plate I found by not applying so much weight onto the pad while running the machine for a long periods of time and no over applying product helps extend the life of the backing plate. All the heat the machine makes it softens the hook and loop system and by softening it bend the hooks that grap the loops that are on the pad.

I was just noticing that I was having the same problem. I thought it was my pads, as they are a little worn. I pulled out a brand new pad, as two others fell off onto the ground, but it didn't stick well either.
