Hi guys. I've been a huge Meguiar's fan for years and I have a question. I recently purchased the PC 7424 from an online dealer that included the 6" Velcro backed pad for free. I ordered the W8006 and W9006 pads along with (1) bottle of #80 and (1) bottle of #20. I was concerned that I would have problems using the Meguiar's pads with the 6" backplate so I ordered the correct Meguiar's backplate. Hopefully I will get everything soon so that I can detail my wife’s Jeep then my truck. (Here's was purchased used and the paint was slightly neglected, not too bad though) Anyway, my last concern is that my PC 7424 came with the 6" counter weight. I read on quite a few web sites including the Porter Cable web site that they(Porter Cable) began shipping the PC 7424 with the 6" counter weight like the 7336. I did verify that my new PC 7424 does in fact have the 6" installed. Will this be OK or should I try to finding the 5" counter weight somewhere? I've searched the forum and found some stuff but I'm still not sure. Thanks in advance for your help. Also, I love this forum. I've always applied everything by hand but thanks to this forum, I have the confidence to try the buffer. I've never used one before but I am very handy with power tools and sanders so I think I'll be fine. Thanks again. Sorry for the long post.

Despite all the misinformation you read on all of the other detailing discussion forums the counterweight will make no difference in the operation of the tool and more importantly the results you achieve.
Much more important than the silly counterweight topic is your choice of products and the technique you use to apply them.

Hi:
The short answer - When using the tool as a polisher either will work.

I'm very sorry I posted the thread twice. I mistakenly posted it in the wrong area then I was not able to delete it. Thanks for replying. I feel honored that I got a reply from you Mike. You seem to be the man here. Extremely knowlgeble. Also thanks KTruck for your reply. Mike, honestly this is the only detailing forum that I am a part of and visit. I spent a lot of time searching threads from way back to get all the information that I can about using my new Polisher. Since Meguiar's is the only products I use, I like to hear from people that use these products. I know from first hand experience the quality of Meguiar’s products but the polisher is new to me. I agree with you 100% on your comment about choosing the right products and using the proper technique to apply them. I printed out a chart that you once posted on the pad selection and speed settings to use with each product. That was really helpful. Thanks again.
