  • first time using g-100

i applied #80 with g-100 to small area

    this where i buffed

    this is not

    how is it?
i buffed two times.. because i think swirl markd didnt really removed at the first times..
should i just use 80 or should i use 83?
and does g-100 shakes alot while buffing?? after the buff, my hands were itching due to holding shaking polisher for a while

That's routine for the first time a person uses the machine. It may happen again and again, especially if you're not using it frequently. The machine will vibrate/shake a fair amount because of the motion of the polishing head.

As far as the polished and not polished area...I definitely see the difference. You made an improvement. If YOU are happy with the results after just using M80, then go to your wax or sealant and call it done!
See the big picture, enjoy the details

exactly. use the least aggressive product first (which you did) and if you feel you didn't make an improvement (pics show you have) then do another pass with #80 and work it in with slow overlapping passes with a good amount of pressure (technique makes a big difference). i really don't see the need for #83 as the #80 seems to have worked.

          thanks for replies hm..
i shouldve examine more carefully when the first buff is done so i can decide which i should use...
cuz i dont wanna buff whole car twice with 80 lol
is there any other way to see the swirl marks beside UV from sun??
its annoying to move car after the buff to where its not shaded to see if the swirl marks are removed and move back to shade to buff again.
is there anything that is agressive than 80 and less agressive than 83?

i know how you feel and also get impatient sometimes, and want immediate results the very first time. but..... sometimes, you'll have to do several applications to get the best result(s). scratchx would also be an example of a product that you have to use several times, to get the desired/best result(s).

You can purchase a Xeon flashlight like a Brinkman at Target for about $25.00 and it will expose swirls and scratches like nobody's business. You'll actually come to hate this tool because it's an evil task master showing you swirls and scratches that even the best detailer cannot remove 100% of the time, but it beats moving the car around in the sun.

Here's Richard Lin using one to examine the paint after removing some scuffs...

Remember, the end-result is achieved after you apply your wax, working your finish up to the highest quality results is a process and often times it isn't until you apply your LSP that the maximum potential is reached.

I actually found some weightlifting gloves that prove great for this. They are very well padded accross the palms. I got them at Target int he sports section.

I have the dual XENON. I am security at night on a Military base. I smoke cigars from time to time and pulll the XENON light out and walk around the parking lot looking at other peoples finishes. I think they suspect I am looking at the cars for security reasons.

Hehe, I just got finished doing it a few minutes before seeing this post too. Was checking out a Gunny's white Mustang. Pretty car, but he needs a little Meg's advice. Swirl City. I don't think he is into all this so I want to point him at Color-X at the least.

Now that is funny!!! Does it not make you cringe every time you see a swirled vehicle??!! In June, I always go to a large beach crusie car show and I just flinch as I see so many cars that are swirl city! Maybe I should take my Xenon light with me this year!!!

For me, to be honest I check others finishes out to try and figure out just who might have a good grasp of what they are doing. In other words, who might there be that can teach me something.

I have to be honest. I have yet to see a finish as yet that has gained my respect. I hope to get over to the local Covette clubs gatherings some this summer and see what they have going on. I guess by my taking this up as one of my primary intersts I have acheived a decent skill level. Great! Hopefully I will personnaly meet a few folks over time to buddy up with and share some tips with. Until then. I'll just keep making people nervous with the XENON!! I have alot to learn with this stuff and enjoy the heck out of it.

Heck I have 2 folks coming over this weekend at the same time with 2 different vehicles. They are going to be doing the bulk of the work. I am just going to do the evaluation, test spots and such and see what direction to go. Once I show them how to work each step I'll step back, clean up and prep for the next step. Should make for an enjoyable weekend.

I tend to do this quite often. I usually don't even charge. I do make them buy the clay kit as once the clay is used, I have no need for it. And with these new Smooth Surface Clay kits, I at least know they have a bottle of QD and a good, quality MF to start them off.

I don't charge for the polishes and such. I just make them provide the food. When all is done if they choose to give me a little bit of money, I definately take it. But right now I am doing all of this as I find it a great experience builder.
