  • City tools orbital buffer

Hi everyone. I've been browsing here for quite a while, but I needed a question answered so i joined up!

I purchased a city tools buffer not long ago and yes, i know it isn't as good as the PC, but i can't justify £200 just yet, so that's out of the question.

I originally bought it to apply my DC steps faster and more efficiently, but I was thinking why not use something like #83 or #80? Unfortunately it only comes with a terry bonnet (which barely fits) and a soft buffing bonnet (which doesn't fit). It's a 10" pad which i understand may be too large.

Would it be possible for me to apply #80/#83 with a microfibre bonnet? (which may need to be custom made by my mum!) Would it instill more scratches that it heals?

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to add 2900 OPM and 120 W

    Hi nightfever,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I don't know anything about the polisher you're referring to, but most orbital buffers are not effective for what you're tying to accomplish but...

You never know what you can do until you try

Are you just wanting to apply or spread products out over the finish so you don't have to do it by hand?

    Or,

Are you trying to remove defects such as swirls and scratches?

    What are you working on?

The M83 and M80 if applied with this tool should cause more problems than they'll fix so you could give it a try.

Post a link or a picture of the tool, maybe that will help us better to help you, but in all seriousness... until you take this tool out into your garage and with your hands start testing it out on your car's finish with the products and bonnets you've chosen, nobody's going to know what you can or cannot do.

Thanks for your reply Mike. I am happy with just adding my product faster and more evenly, but if i can deal with swirl marks, that's a bonus.

I already have meguiars steps 2 and 3, but am looking for something to improve the paint behind the polish and wax. I will either buy DC step 1 OR scratch X OR M83 OR m80. I understand that scratch X can "gum up" when used with a DA, but your detail on the mercedes (by hand) looked great.

This sentence sounds a little contradictary to me, is this what you meant?

If i buy any of the products, would i be able to apply them with a microfibre bonnet? Thanks again.
