  • New motorcycle paint...

Hey guys and gals, I just had my motorcycle painted 2 weeks ago from a local guy. I know he only put on 2 coats of clear. It's black with nice flame work. I see swirls in it already (some pretty heavy), and I think they are from him. I know...take it back and have him fix it...right? Well, I've had problems with him from day one, so I don't want to do that. My question is this...with a delicate paint job like this...when is a suitable time to use my DA polisher? I was thinking of using M21 on a light pad to take it easy. I would be very afraid to use the "swirl" remover due to the newness. Any help would be greatly appreciated (I've tried the search but came up with way too many threads...mainly on "new cars") Thanks

The G100 is useful for large flat panels (cars). On bikes I suggest you work by hand. Try Scratch X with foam applicator. Then apply the M21 or Tech Wax.

If your painter has sprayed a catalyzed clear coat over the flames and custom paint work, (cross your fingers he did), then you can re-polish this finish using the dual action polisher and probably a cleaner polish like M80 Speed Glaze to remove the swirls.

It will be sad to find out that someone sanded and buffed your gas tank to get that show car finish, but used archaic product to do so and this is why you now have swirls, as is in rotary buffer swirls like these...

If you want to be really careful with it, try some M09 Swirl Remover 32.0 with a W-9006 finishing pad on the G100 Dual Action Polisher on the 5.0 setting and about 15 pounds of pressure.

Afterwards go to wax if it's been 30 days or longer and/or the painter said it was okay to apply wax.

How about a before and after picture?

Ace 2 coats of clear on custom paint job? I would say 3-4 min because of sanding between coats.

The paint after 2 weeks is about as hard as its going to get if its a 2k HS clear .First I would look to see if there is a little lip around the edges of the flames .If there are then the clear wasnt blocked down . If the clear is dead smooth then u have some real thin clear .. I would never do a job with only 2 coats over the Graphics.

I would try to get them out buy hand first . If it still dont look right try the PC on an inconspicuous area . Rear fender under the seat maybe. If u go thru the clear I would talk with the painter see if he will fix it or go to reputable body shop and have it recleared.find out what paint the 1st painter used for compatibility issues

This is with a total of 7 HOK clear coats ,3 sand with 500 ,2 and sand with 500 and 2 flow coats. cut and buff 2000 paper

This is my personal bike and I do several customer bikes a year ,never a comeback..As u can see there is no edge on the Phantom flame but there is most likely still 3-4 coats over the graphics after the sanding and buff
