  • Still struggling...

Well I busted out the DA and the #80 and #83. I'm still struggling to use it to fully remove all of my swirls. it appears to have removed some, but now it appears to be some micro swirls that aren't as noticable!! i'd love for them to be all gone ASAP!!

the reason is, I'm embarrased to be sponsored by Meguiars with my Civic and to have a swirled up paint!!

its a red car, and the paint is just new this time last year. i used the yellow pad with the 80 and 83, on a speed of 5. applied a X of product on the pad, and worked a smaller area.

I think I might be using to much product, not using enough pressure, or not working the product in long enough!! i need this gone by april 28th, as my car is being shown on display at a show!!!!

so come on MOL help a fellow MOL and show goer out!!

    Hey,

Try working the #80 until it is a very light, clear looking residue. Use the G100 at speed #5 working over a 12"x12" area. After priming the pad, apply a thin ring of product around the pad. Wipe off using a high quality MF towel.

Now, if the swirls are still there, try this: take #80 but this time use a W-9006 Finishing Pad. If this helps but does not remove the micro-marring. Now step down to #82 with a clean W-9006 Pad. In both cases, apply the product with the G100 set to speed 5. Remove with a clean MF towel for each step.

Make sure to use clean buffing pads. If that pads have been used previously, try switching to a clean fresh pad.

It will take a little bit of testing, but I am sure we will figure this out for you!!

why not try to fill them i guess its better than nothing
        try M09 or M07 on a 9006

i am supprised that #82 didn't do the trick for you on a 9006 pad

            Hey,

Sometimes even #80 is too aggressive on certain paints. That's why I suggested that you follow the #80 with #82 with a clean W-9006 Pad. I have a feeling that once you give #82 a try with the W-9006 pad, your micro-marring should be gone.

Now, with that said, there are some difficult paints to deal with. Some require a lot of experimentation to find the right combo. Give the #82 a try and let us know how it turns out!

I've been having the same problem (I'm in the middle of polishing my truck) with the marring. I've tried #80, #83, #9 and all are going the same thing. I thought I had polished it before without having that problem, but I'm not sure because I've gotten a more detailed eye when it comes to the paint finish.

I've tried cleaning the pads in several different manners, like the methods recommended be Mike Phillips, as well as soaking them in dish soap and rinsing out all of the polish and brushing off any dried residue.

As I've tried polishing today, I kept cleaning out excess product by holding the pad against a terry lcoth while I turn it on, as well as using a brush to clean off any dried residue. I STILL keep getting dust appearing, but I can't imagine I'm buffing too long- the paint isn't hot, I'm in my garage, and I'm only making three passes.

I feel like I've tried everything and keep getting the same result. I don't have a milder product than #80, but I shouldn't need one...should I? I may try a polishing pad that has been used with DC2 and see if the mild pad makes the difference. I have to pull my act together, though, because I have a detail job on a black Audi next Saturday!!!!!

okay- I tried a couple other things. I tried #80 with a finishing pad...didn't work; just a finer marring. I tried spraying quick detailer on the pad, as well as on the surface for one pass....maybe helped a bit, but still didn't eliminate. It seems like no matter what I do to try to clean the pad, sometimes I still get a little product dust slinging when I start up the buffer. I tried to get rid of that by holding the pad into a towel, against my hand, with a brush- anything that could get the dust out, but still got dust!

                help!

                  Follow-up number 2:

After the frustration of marring, I just went to wax because apparently nothing was going to work for me today. After wiping off the wax I pulled it into the sun and noticed that the marring disappeared. I guess that may be why I've never noticed it before. The wax just filled in the marring.

I guess I'll have to try #82 with a fresh pad and see what happens...but that's ANOTHER product to order after I just plaed an order two days ago!
