  • How much wax/polish do I apply to the pad?

I generally apply a small amount in a circlular motion on the pad from the outside to the inside. I wax/polish half of my hood, and then apply more wax/polish to the pad for the other half of my hood. Am I doing this right? Or do I need to add the wax/polish only once per panel? When is the right time to add more wax/polish to the pads?

    edit: I have a PC 7424

well i would say it depends
some waxes spread better than others. if you get a PC/G100 its a lot easier!!

The 7424 IS the G-100 except the G-100 has a lifetime guarantee. I have the 7424.
I am learning myself how much to put on. Trial and error is what I'm doing.

If its a G-100 and has the Meguiars name on it I would think so, Mike might have to step in and clarify this.

I would make sure it says meguiars on it and ask where they bought it from and if they have the receipt.

Let's see if we can't get this thread back on track here......

If you find that the amount of wax/polish you're putting on the pad only gives you nice, thin coverage on half the hood then I'd say you're doing it right. If, on the other hand, you're putting down a thick coat that dries to a heavy, white, hard to remove film then you aren't spreading your wax over a large enough area to keep the coat thin.

You mention wax/polish, but the process is a bit different for the two. A polish generally requires more pressure and higher machine speed and is worked in for a decent amount of time and wiped off before it hazes.

A wax is generally applied with a bit slower machine speed but moving the machine over the paint faster than you would for a polish. You also don't use as much pressure as you aren't trying to fix any defects. Generally a larger area is worked with a wax too, and of course you do want the wax to haze before removal.

Probably a longer answer than you were looking for, but there it is!

After recently attending a detailing class here in Tampa, hosted by Mike and a great group of guys at Tampa Honda Land, I've learned I've been over-saturating the pad so-to-speak.

When I watched Mike apply product to a fresh pad, he made a thin line all the way around the pad and applied the product to the panel. After the pad had been "primed" he used only a thin line about half way around the pad.

I tried this yesterday after reading this, things went sooooo much better. The pad didn't get all gummed up with polish. Definately something to put in my memory banks for future use.
                    Thanks for the information
