  • Newbie with PC

I want to practice using my new PC on my daily driver before I let it touch either of my Mustangs. I am mainly wanting to get used to the feel of the PC so that I can approach my good cars with some confidence. Bearing in mind that I plan to use Meguiars exclusively on the Mustangs, I do have some Mother's products that I use on the daily (Neon).

Here's my question. Would using a W-8006 pad with Mother's Cleaner Wax on the Neon help me to get used to using the PC?

My plan for the Mustangs is to clay, then use the Deep Crystal 1 & 2 and then NXT.

    Thanks.

Well, you can certainly use the Mothers Cleaner/Wax, it probably wont give best results, but it will give you a chance to get the PC up and running.

I will say that though DC#1 and 2 can be used with the PC, they may not give the best results either. I tend to think that the #83/#80/#82, and perhaps a pure polish give best results with the PC.

Since, I have no experience with Mother's cleaner wax and its performance, I cant comment on using that product.

But one product that gave me a great feel for how to use the PC (G-100) was using ColorX on a w8006 pad at speed 4-5. ColorX is great for newbie applications since it is strong enough to remove swirls and cut through oxidation, yet very safe. Yes, it is a strong cleaner wax.

It gave me great insight on how Meguiar's diminishing abraisives work. The longer you work it in, the more the abraisives work into the finish and dissipate.

It's always good to do a test spot first to see if you achieve any improvement from using a technique/product.

My process for using ColorX on a PC (g-100) wax:
      1. Make an X of product on a w8006 foam polishing pad.
      2. Smear the product onto the area I will be working/cleaning (around 2x2 feet) without turning on the machine.
      3. Place the pad firmly (around 20lbs of pressure) to the finish. Turn the machine on at Speed 5 and begin working over that area in quick motions (as to spread the product out more evenly).
      5. Work over the area slowly prior to the quick motions at speed 5. Perhaps around 1-2 inches a second. Work back and forth until you can barely see the ColorX on the car's finish.
      6. Remove with a clean, soft microfiber towel. If there is an improvement in the test spot area, move on to the next section.

Thanks for the responses. Like I said, I have the cleaner wax already and merely want to gain some experience with the daily driver before using the PC on my Mustangs.
