  • G100A vs PC 7336

What's the difference between these 2 units, other that warranty? I noticed the PC 7336 is labeled a Sander. I just don't want to spend the money on the 7336 if it's not to used on cars, since that's what I planning on doing!

Now all I would need to do is buy the Backing Plate and Pads, and I'd be ready to go right?

yup. i'd order more pads as you should only use one product per pad....

          This kit includes a 5" Backing plate w/ 3 6.5" pads.

Now is that right? Shouldn't it 5" pads to use with the 5" backing plate instead of the 6.5" pads?

You really don't want the backing plate to stick over the edge of the pad (potential for spinning plate to come in contact with paint), and in fact, you don't want it going all the way out to the edge either. There are times while buffing that you may need to buff on an angle or within a groove, and you want a flexible edge, and the smaller backing plate permits that.

the Velcro portion of the pad is 5", maybe just a shade larger. Not sure if this is the right way to explain it, but the extra pad hanging over the backing plate provides a little protection/bumper and helps prevent the backing plates edge from contacting the paint, in most cases don't think you want the backing plate and pad the exact same size.

If your PC has the smaller counterweight, you might want to get the larger one made for 6" backing plates. Some people don't notice any difference but others (myself included) *do* notice less vibration. I use the larger weight with all sizes of backing plates/pads.

The part # for the 6" weight is 699933 and I ordered directly from Porter Cable (888 848-5175). Just a few bucks; it probably cost as much to ship it as it did for the weight itself but I can't remember.
