Have you considered a wash mitt?...It is less likely to inflict scratches on the finish than a sponge.

        Detailing a car

I have been out of the detailing biz for a while, but I remember reading somewhere to vacuum the interior before you wash the car. That way, you avoid dragging the vacuum and your feet through puddles. And it is safer if the electrical cord is in questionable condition.

Gee, everything was going just fine until you put tire shine on your wheels and waxed before you polished.

Oh, wait. You didn't clean your tires and wheels! And don't forget those wheel wells, especially if you're going to post pictures around here. This is a picky bunch!!!

I always vacuum first, makes sense. Windows last.

yes, vacum first, washign mitt needed and water magnet to dry. terry towel can carry contaminents can't it that might not have been fully removed and scatch car.

i just vacum first, then wash and stuff and then do detail interior.

I do have a meguiar's wash mitt. But I don't really use it. And I do wash the wheel well's and tire's. And I do put the polish on then wax car.

I have to contest the part about spraying air freshener into the car.

I feel the best way to keep the car smelling fresh (IE, somewhat of a new car smell) is to eliminate the source of the odor. That is, find the source, spray in a little-to-no odor carpet cleaner (or just plain water), and scrub with a medium-stiff bristled brush. Let the mats and other removables dry out in the sun, and let the vehicle air out.

Everybody who hops in my car for the first time always comment on how it smells like new car smell.

I usually do the interior first on a full detail to give the carpets and everything time to fully dry while I do the exterior.
