  • What is the best way to clean a headliner?

My kids this past weekend, accidentally got my tan headliner dirty getting in and out of the car. It is a G35 coupe which has a suede like material.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated/

Headliners can be tricky to clean. We clean most with APC and a wash mitt.

We first dampen the wash mitt with water. We them mist a mixture of APC onto the mit. Then gentaly rub that on the affected area.

If is really dirty and /or that doesn't work, mist the soiled area directly with APC. Don't spray too much and allow it to dwell to give the APC a chance to work.

What dilution ratio would you use for the APC?

You want to avoid getting the headliner too wet, or it could begin to sag. I recommend spraying the cleaner on the rag but not directly onto the headliner itself.

            Hey,

            Just to add....

I too would not spray directly on the headliner as it is possible to create a REALLY clean spot that will stand out with what looks like a stain ring around the area. Ideally, use as little water or cleaner as possible and work from center of the spot outwards. Then grab a MF towel and gently wipe it.

As Joe said, headliners are tricky as their backing will absorb water which can cause a great deal of problems. This is a time to use the least amount of water/product as possible.

Around the sunroof of my 2005 G35 Sedan is a suede like material like the headliners on wjfm1 G35 Coupe. Well, I been washing my car and some lint from my wash mitt got onto the suede around the sunroof. What is the best way to remove and clean it without hurting the paint around it?

              Thanks.

Well if I'm thinking of the same thing you are...I'd use a microfiber to see if it will pick up the lint.

My wash mitt have been leaving lots of lints on the suede trim around the sunroof. Now, I try not to touch it when washing with my wash mitt. I've remove most of the big lints; yet, there're some small ones that won't come off unless I use tape or something.

I would think a spray foam would be good for headliners.

For headliners, I use APC and probubly a closer to a 4:1 ratio, and gently mist (super fine mist) the headliner and gently (super gently) use a folded hand size terry to swipe the dirt away after letting the APC set a couple of minutes. Now every headliner is different and this may not work for some, so try it on an inconspicuous area first. I really like Joe's method with the wash mit. Just a normal lambs wool?
