New Car Leather Question

hey all,

I just purchased my first new car now that I've graduated college. It's a graphite pearl Honda Accord EX with 5-speed manual and leather seats.

Anyway, I'm really eager to start detailing it with Meguiar's products. I tried out the one step leather cleaner/conditioner on the seats the other day to see what it would do. To my suprise, the leather seems really thirsty as it soaked the stuff up. It is coated leather but still seems to benefit from the product and even feels a little softer. Is it worth while conditioning new leather seats? The car was manufactured this month, so it seems like they shouldn't need any attention.

Also, since the seatbacks and sides are vinyl, should I be using a product made for vinyl or just use the leather cream?

It's never too soon to start good maintenance program for your car, whether it's new or old. As Barry is often heard saying,

"Frequent car care is easy car care"

So by all means, find a leather care product you like and use it often. As far as which product to use where...

Meguiar's teaches the philosophy of matching the correct product to the surface to be treated. This would mean a leather product for leather and a vinyl product for vinyl.

I've found if leather is thirsty give it all it can drink (within reason). Even with a new car it's easily possible the leather is not as new as the vehicle. When I condition leather I sometimes lay the product on thick if it's soaking it up and let it sit, sometimes even over night and then come back and wipe off the excess. In the end it will come out nice and soft.

For the vinly sides and backI doubt a leather product would hurt it, but the detailer line leather cleaner/conditioner specifically says it can be used on vinyl so I use it for the entire seat surface, plus it has a nice clean smell to it.
