  • Need Leather care advice

A customer is bringing me a 2005 Escalade with black leather interior needing to be cleaned and conditioned.
I already use D180 on my own 2001 car with black leather.
I use a McCollugh 1275 steamer to clean the seats and then I apply D180.
I've noticed that I cannot tell D180 was applied after it drys.
Does this mean I need to apply another coat of D180?
How can I demonstrate to a customer that D180 was applied to the seats?

But I am wondering if I need something with better conditioning even if its not from Meguiars.

    What do you guys recommend?
    Thank you

You don't always have to use one brand for everything. I use Chemical Guys SPI40116 Vintage Series Leather Conditioner - 16 oz; its a great product. Just apply about 3 lines of solution on a Microfiber applicator and you can see the difference. Moreover, if you applied too much you can just wipe the excess off.

Is the Chemical guys really greasy or does it leave it looking nice dry but clean looking?

Swissvax has a very nice, gentle cleaner (closest to pH neutral that I have found) that is great, but very pricy. Only use it on relatively delicate Audi valcona leather, which has a very thin coating to protect it. Cleaner leaves an amazing clean, matt finish, just like new... Separate product for protecting (similarly not cheap )

I actually really like Meg's consumer leather cleaner (the one that is only cleaner, not combined), cleans very well, thus not even sure if I really need to worry about that higher pH that many leather cleaners have... This one is much more affordable...

            Re: Need Leather care advice

Since 95% of all automotive leather these days is protected leather you are most likely cleaning urethane paint and not the actual leather under it, the PH of the cleaner is pretty irrelevant. When you are finished cleaning and protecting leather it should look like it is nearly new. That is what the customer should recognize. He should not be expecting shiny, greasy or grabby leather.

The leather should feel a little softer and look new after applying D180. It should not have the greasy look to it or the super slick feeling.
