  • Preparing For Winter

A little early, but I figured, I should prepare for Winter.

I've bought my Elantra in August 2012. Basically, I've only vacuumed it a few times since then.

I would like to properly take care of it before Fall comes when it starts raining up here in Vancouver. Anywho, do I really need some special sort of vacuum? We have a Rainbow vacuum and it does a pretty good job in our carpets in the house. That should suffice, right?

I guess use some sort of spray to kill bacteria and stuff? I'm pretty limited with supplies here and honestly, I'd rather just buy it from canadiantire.ca (which the retail stores would carry) or Wal-Mart in the States. I'd rather not order online.

My seats are fairly clean. I'm usually the only passenger. Umm... I do have a fry in there from McDonalds which I can't find (don't ask me how that happened, please).

Basically, my question is.. Any vacuum should get the job done to properly maintain it since it doesn't have any stains on the carpet or seats (non-leather). All it gets is rain water, but I've already switched out the carpet mats and have gone with a rubber All-Season (these are butter than carpet mats, right?)

Get a wet dry vac, the bigger the motor the better.
Also get Weather Guard Floor mats.
Spray 3m Scotch Guard everything fabric.
      Clean it weekly.

Yea, basically prevent mold and bacteria. I've read that's a good thing to try and address early for places that rain a lot/get cold.

As long as your driving the car regularly and not leaving windows/sunroof open, you should be okay, especially with a new car. Issues arise when water gets in the car (through an open window or faulty seal). Keeping it clean us obviously good, but as long as there's airflow (driven regularly) and its kept dry inside, you shouldn't have mild issues.
