Just ordered a VX 5000. After reading all the amazing things people are doing with these machines, I figured it was time to see for my self. Hope it's the game changer I'm looking for.

Re: Pulled the trigger on Steam
I have used it on about a dozen cars so far and it is really a game changer. A little APC and this baby can fly through some of the filthiest doors. Where it really shines is cloth seats. I used to hate cloth interior because of the time it took using the extractor on them, then the need to let them dry. This thing cleans them super fast and they are dry instantly. I also use it on all but the worst carpets. When I use it in combination with my HP60 it can get pretty much any stain up. It is a beast on cup holders.
Now the bad. It is a tool and there is a learning curve. When working on older vehicles there is a chance of plastic discoloring. I will no longer use it on leather, I used it with great results on several cars but then i tried it on a buddies worn out seats from a mid-90 sedan and they instantly cracked. It just sucked all the moister out of them. Im sure its fine on newer leather in better condition, but i will never take that chance. Also I never use it around the steering colum any more. I got one customers multi switch damp and after he picked up his truck he got half way home and the wipers and washer fluid started spraying every where. He called me and i told him to let it dry overnight and i would replace it if it did not fix it self, which it did thankfully.
Pro: Great verstile tool that really allows you to do some amazing things in way less time.
Con: Like any powful tool, you must learn how to use it. It could get expensive for you if you get carried away with it.

I myself purchased a VX 5000 less than a month ago and love the help it dishes out on trashed interiors. Couldn't agree more with you on it being a tool and requiring some restraint. For the leather seat issues you had, did you / do you use a microfiber or terry rag over the attachment you used? I get great results on all the leather / vinyl seats I do as it helps muffle some heat that could be detrimental to the cleaning.
Not to say you haven't already tried that or that some seats can't take the abuse regardless. Jist thinking outloud!Everybody digs a nice clean car.
