  • some nitpick questions about cleaning the inside of the car

These questions are for a car where the inside is regularly maintained and so the dash just has some dust, the door panels may have some dirt from shoes and the carpet just has its usual little pebbles and dirt. And I may be nitpicking too much but it always seems there is still some dust on the vinyl by the dashboard and steering wheel and sometimes little pebbles and hair still on the carpet. I use Natural shine protectant for the vinyl applied on a small circle microfiber pad.

    1) Do you guys use a wet vac for the carpet? I use a small wet vac that works well.

    2) Are you able to get 100% of the dirt/little pebbles/hair from underneath the mats on the carpet and in the crevices by the door? I am sometimes annoyed because I get most of it but there is sometimes still some little pebbles still in the car.

    3) What do you use for the dashboard where the radio and the buttons are? I use a small circle microfiber pad and there is always some dust left over.

    4) What do you use to clean the little screen on your dashboard if there is a screen in the car? Also, do you use glass cleaner on the glass in front of the odometer?

    5) Do you ever clean the steering wheel, (the part where you put your hands)?

    6) What is the different b/t the natural shine protectant and quik interior detailer?

    Thanks

I use this as well works great for me

I do my best to get everything. I use a heavy brisle brush to pull up loose dirt that I don't get on my intial vaccum.

Quik Interior Detailer and compressed air

    4) What do you use to clean the little screen on your dashboard if there is a screen in the car? Also, do you use glass cleaner on the glass in front of the odometer?
    Window cleaner

    5) Do you ever clean the steering wheel, (the part where you put your hands)?

    6) What is the different b/t the natural shine protectant and quik interior detailer?

Meguiars use to sell a pet hair brush that worked great when I used it to get people hair out of the carpet. Don't think they sale it anymore. Put you can find something like it at any auto parts store.

Yes a wet/dry vac works well. As far as getting all of the little pebbles out are they embedded or just loose? If they are embedded try a small toothbrush. For the little buttons you can use a small paint brush for the buttons. The little screen I use an lcd screen cleaner and a FRESH microfiber. The gauge cluster I clean with glass cleaner. I clean the steering wheel use apc dont use anything with dressing in it or you could lose your grip. Natural shine is a straight dressing where interior quick detailer cleans as well

QID, and you can look for real long fiber MF towels, or a soft brush.

          4) What do you use to clean the little screen on your dashboard if there is a screen in the car? Also, do you use glass cleaner on the glass in front of the odometer?
          QID.

          5) Do you ever clean the steering wheel, (the part where you put your hands)?
Yeah, APC or APC + is good for that.

Just to add with the above comments, I do dress my steering wheel. But mine has a very deep texture on it, and I tested small spots to see if I ever noticed it before doing the whole wheel.

For just doing random cars you dont know, QID may be the best way to follow up APC/+ if you feel it needs a littel follow up.

          6) What is the different b/t the natural shine protectant and quik interior detailer?
The protectant products will have more moisturizing, UV protection in them. QID has a little UV protection in it, but more of a cleaner.

Re: some nitpick questions about cleaning the inside of the car

If the carpet isn't too dirty I either vacuum it or I use a brush on it. I keep a bottle of carpet cleaner handy if something needs to be spot cleaned. I also use duct tape folded around my hand sticky side out to remove small hairs, dirt, pebbles, lint or what have you to pick up the stuff a vacuum doesn't get. I also use the tape to remove hair and lint from my dash mat, and any other areas that attract such things. As for the screen on my dashboard I wax it from time to time and to remove fingerprints I only wipe it off with a clean microfiber towel. And finally I keep a bottle of compressed air in a can handy for small crevices and vents that get dusty.
