  • Dashboard gouges after stereo install

A friend of mine asked me to take a look at his car the other night. It's a 2004 IS300, and he had an LCD screen stereo installed in it. The place that installed it used a proper dash kit, however they badly gouged up the bezel around the edges of where the trim kit ends. When he complained, they told him he could "buff it out with something".

Needless to say, I find the installation and the exuse to be appalling. The dash surface is sort of rubber to the touch, and the gouges have exposed some lighter color material beneath. Obviously this sort of thing can't be "buffed out" because even if you were able to take material away, you'd just make the exposed, lighter colored portion even worse. If anything, I think it would have to be filled.

I told him that I think it's hopeless, but I thought I'd ask just in case anyone here has any ideas on how to salvage the dash.

Any chance of pic? Maybe a dressing would make it less noticeable, or one of the dash dte kits?

I'll try to get him to send me a pic. I was looking at it late at night, and the lighting was poor.

        you can't buff out plastic.
tell your friend to go back to the hacks and tell them to replace the parts they damaged.
