  • Supreme Shine Vs. Ultimate Protectant

I've been dressing the interior of my car with Armor All Protectant (IMHO, a great product by AA) I'm slowly but surely beginning my total shift to Meg's.

Wondering what dressing between SS and UP lasts longer, and how their glosses compare.

    Thanks!

I would first clean off the Armor All product with warm soapy water.

As for Meguiars dressings, You might want to try Natural Shine. Has a low rich finish and is easy to apply.

For a low matte factory look you might want to try Quik Interior Detailer.

If using Armour All, Mark probably likes gloss....

Ult. Protectant would be glossier, and the spray would be easier to use inside than the liquid.

The Ult. Protectant is a nice middle ground, leaves a nice rich look, and some gloss. Of course my interior is pretty heavily textured, which knocks down gloss some.

        UP - hands down!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Wow! Thanks for the responses! I really appreciate it.

Yep, I like gloss, but I go back and forth, so thanks for the heads up on the lower gloss options.

As far as cleaning the AA off, is Simple Green too harsh? Or just stick with soap and water, as suggested? Thanks again!

Heavily diluted simple green could be ok...

I use the Meguiars APC at ~8:1 or so for general wipedowns.

I'd certainly recomend it over Simple Green.

                Hi Murr,

Your comments are always very informative! Any reason you suggest APC over SG?

                Thanks!

Re: Supreme Shine Vs. Ultimate Protectant

Well, when I started detailing, I used Simple Green on my wheelwells. It was an 05 Legacy, so just the regular black plastic.

After a while, the plastic slowly turned a white chalk. So after the oh ****... I tried using the APC and All Season Dressing to bring it back.

After a few months of regular use, the black came back, and didnt even need the dressing anymore to stay black.

I've used APC on my 08 from the start, and never dress the wheel wells, and still nice and black.

Awesome, thanks again, Murr! So here's some more ?'s...

What kind of life expectancy can I expect to receive out of the gloss of UP on my cars interior?

Also, I realize the gloss may fade, but the product is still there. So, in that vein, how long could I expect UV protection to fare?

At the end of the day, protection is most important to me. So, I would assume the glossiest product protects the most, as it reflects the most UV rays?

Re: Supreme Shine Vs. Ultimate Protectant

Never seen any comparisons between the Natural/Supreme Shine and the Ult. Protectant as far as UV protection. They are dressings, and will have more UV protection than the QID.

Havent seen the gloss mentioned as a factor either.

The Supreme Shine is what I regularly use, and probably apply once a month, or month and a half in the summer.

Murr, just re-reading this before I make a store run... Did you mean SS is the glossier product? Thanks again!

Whoops.. it seems like the Ult. Protectant is glossier to me than the Supreme Shine, but all plastics are a bit different. Yours could react differently. But wont be bad, either way.
