    I like to apply a dressing, let it sit, then come back and wipe off excess after a few minutes.

      That's the best way to apply most dressings, but UP is not most dressings. When UP is applied properly - ie, thoroughly worked against the surface using just a small amount of product at a time - there should be nothing to wipe off later. It just dries and bonds.

            It depends on the type of material the dash is made out of...

            Here is a review I did where I applied it to a dash and then compare it to other dressings...I hope it helps!
