I saw this on another forum I'm a member of a little while ago and thought it would interest some members here.


The van (venture) had no rear seats, and you honestly would not even be able to open the sliding doors without a shovel.

Could not see carpet or any seat ANYWHERE except where the driver goes.

Half eaten moldy food everywhere...

Three questions come to my mind - 1, How lazy do you have to be to let this much garbage pile up in your van? 2, How bad must it stink in that thing? 3, Short of lighting it on fire, where would you even start cleaning a mess like this?

A forth question for the pros here - If you were willing to tackle this beast how much would you charge?

It might not be real bad once you empty out all that garbage and take the seats out.

It would probably take a good two days for me to complete the detail.

But I wouldnt touch it for less than $800.

Just not worth the time and effort when I could be detailing something else.

Twice I have seen vehicles like that...once a sedan where the entire back seat area was full up to the top of the front seats, I had parked next to it and had to do a double-take to make sure I was actually seeing what I thought...and there was somebody sitting in the driver's seat.

Another time I saw an SUV in Pep Boy's parking lot, that was full up to the roof including the passenger seat. I can't be positive that it wasn't dead in the lot and someone was using it for a dumpster, but I'm pretty sure someone drove it there like that...

Yeah I agree, that's definitely a hoarder's car. Unfortunately it's a pretty serious illness, just like OCD which I believe hoarding is a form of (just think it's the opposite end of our spectrum). I just read somewhere in Nevada or Colorado there was a woman missing for several months, after numerous searches they finally found her.....in her house, under a massive pile of junk...hubby had no idea she was there!

As an EMT one of my worst fears is getting called to an MVA with a pt(s) in a car like this one. I've already been to numerous houses that look like this, it's really a sad sight to see but some people really truly cannot stop unless there is some serious interventions going on, just like alcoholism and drug addiction.

I'd detail this bad boy, but as Tuck noted....it'll cost a pretty and darn shiny penny!

I don't see it being that big of a deal. A pair of gloves, 10 big garbage bags and 15 minutes later you'll have a normal looking van. The drivers seat is cleaner than some of the vehicles we see. It's obvious that nobody uses the other seat. I doubt you are going to find vegetables rotting in there. It's just a bunch of processed junk and packaging.

I work for a Toyota dealer and somethimes I see cars that are very bad but not as bad as this one, although on second thought I did see one as bad .

One problem I have with this is (in amoungst many issues) what do you do to determine what is to be kept? When I do an interior, I put anything found under the seats or anywhere inside the interior in small baggies. I leave them on the passenger seat and let the client determine what is trash and what is to be kept (loose change, receipts, combs, etc). I never take in upon myself to make that decision (unless it is obvious trash such as gum wrappers etc).
Here, in this example (if I was to take on this opportunity), I would insist the customer either:
1.) go through it all and determine what is to be kept or
2.) indicate that all is trash and allow me to throw it all away.

Then I would adorn myself in masks, gloves, goggles and whatever else is needed for protection.

I call dibs on the recyclable pop cans. There is probably a fortune buried there. Once I cash them in I can buy some more Megs products [ can never have enough ]

Yikers! People bring their car in for service full of garbage?? Unbelievable.

I've already been to numerous houses that look like this, it's really a sad sight to see...

Just put all 10 garbage bags back in the van when you are done. It has no back seats

Seriously though. I'd have to tell the customer to go through it and remove anything that they wanted to keep. Everything else found would go in the trash.

Likely a hoarder isn't getting their van detailed. It's probably a repo etc.
