  • Leather cleaning

I recently detailed a 2007 Toyota Camry. The man kept his car fairly clean. His main concern was his leather driver seat, he would go to the gym every day after work and his seat was stained and was starting to smell. I told him I would do what I could, and he was very pleased when he got his car back, an email afterward told me he almost slept in it that night . However, I only was able to use Super Degreaser and a spray leather conditioner, multiple times, with time in between so as not to saturate the seat. But since you can't really water extract a leather seat like a do on my own car, how do a lot of people go about deep cleaning leather for things like bad smells. I've seen a lot of people on here lately using steam cleaners, is that a good way to go?

    Peace

    Re: Leather cleaning

I've never experienced a "bad smell" in my car, or any other leather car for that matter. I've never really thought to use a steam cleaner on the leather, but I suppose it could work.

Whenever I do a deep cleaning of my leather, I use Leatherique, but that is a full day process, and a twice a year process to rejuvenate the leather. It gets deep down through the leather hide. It may work to get rid of smells, but in my car, I cannot smell anything other than the leather and wood.

If the leather is scuffed, most here use APC (diluted of course). I had always thought it was a bit silly, but the other day, a passenger in my car scuffed the leather with their black pants. I'm going to try to remove it with what I've got. If I've got no luck, then I'll go for the APC.

For your customer, I'd suggest he line the seat with a bag, or change his shirt before taking off.
