  • Carpet Cleaning/Shampooing

Hello, I have recently been looking more into detailing the interior of my car and other cars. Currently I just do the basic stuff (dash, vacuum, etc.) but I want to be able to actually clean or shampoo the carpets if necessary.

The only product I have that can do that is some Hot Shot from walmart to get out stains which isn't meant to spray down the whole carpet. The only meguiars product I have found seems to be Quik Out but im not sure if that is just meant for just single stains or if you spray the whole carpet with it? If you do, is this considered shampooing the carpet?

Also, I have a shop vac wet/dry.. not sure if that matters for what im asking.

    Thanks!

You can Try APC or APC+ at 10:1, and a brush.

If you own a pressure washer then, HIT THAT THING UP! with water, then Sun Dry it :P

If it can be used for single stains, then you can use it for the whole carpet. Nothing is going to happen.

I have also used Resolve Foam which lays down a nice thick layer of foam which I can work into the carpet with a brush. I then let it sit for a few minutes and then vacuum the area. This works well for carpets that only need a mild shampooing, not for the really heavy stuff.

If a carpet is really soiled, then I will use some APC diluted properly and spot treat as needed or do the entire carpet like so. Vacuum the carpet again after working the cleaner into the carpet with a brush.

I use a an extractor with duel heaters. Does an AMAZING job. But not everyone has access to a profesional extractor. When I did'nt have it I used the good old carpet shampoo/brush/shop vac. Did ok but a good high-end extractor can do wonders.

I'm curious to hear how to do this as well. I've tried cleaning a few floors mats with not very good results. I've used APC+ both 4:1 and 10:1, with warm water and a brush, and I could never really get the carpet clean.

I've always had decent results with brushing in APC 10:1 or good old Tuff Stuff foam carpet cleaner, followed by a shop vac. If the carpet is really soiled, I re-treat the area several times, which almost always helps to some degree.

Here is an interesting thread about APC and minimum use of water.
