Re: Rancid smell.....
APC and let it dry out with the windows down. Odor eliminator might be good, but you have to clean all the juice / chunks up first. You'll probably need some hot water and some type of neutralizer as well. An old toothbrush or Meg's interior brush will be your friend.
Also, who eats watermelon while they drive? I hope it was at least cut into small pieces and they were not chowing down on the rhine.NOTE: Post count does not reflect actual detailing knowledge.

From personal experience. When it comes to Bacteria (which is what the smell is), is that once it gets INTO the fabric of the carpet, you may never get it out. Being it is fruit, you may be ok, but I had a '66 Corvette with Raw CHicken, covered and parked in a hot garage for 2-3 months.
THink of it as the episode of Mythbusters where they try to sell a car that had dead pigs in it.
We tried everything. In the end we needed to remove some of the effeted carpet and enough chemical spray that the car is ok today but never "right".
In recent times I have found Odoban works wonders, gives a pleasant smell. I use a Green Machine with Bissell Cleaner cut with Odoban and always had good results. Yours sounds like it needs straight Odoban.
