  • PlastX problem on gauges

SO after using plastic X on my moms Nissan Murano Display these are my results.

And no that is not a reflection at the top that is where it looks like plastic X took the finish off. Anyone have any ideas on what caused this or anyway of fixing it. I sure am glad it was my moms car and not a customers. I have used plastic X on mine and several others speedometer plastic covering and it looks amazing. I am guessing the display in the Nissan Muranos is not really a plastic????

It appears as if the plastic had a coating and you have removed it in the clear area of that picture. Your best (and only) option now is to simply repeat the process on the entire surface and remove all of it.

I couldn't agree more, Mark. Exactly what I was thinking.

I echo that opinion. That is really your only option.

Did you use a polisher or did you do this by hand? Looks like you went a lil too far with the polisher to me. I'd try repolishing the area(you can't mess it up now anyhow right). Looks to me like the same thing I did on a clear Euro type plastic tail light a while back. I re-did it and was surprised that I got a nice finish with a bit more work.

now lets see not trying to be rude but seems this is on the dash and only like 4 inches high vertically and maybe that width wise how could you possibly use a machine to get into there and move around????

                Is that the NAV screen?

Holy moly, that does look like the NAV screen, please tell me it's not.

If it is just the guage Bezel then I would go over the entire area, like the others said. Since you did do that by hand, very interesting results

Michael I do not know how familiar you are with Nissan Muranos, it is the screen right at the top of the dash in the center of the dash. If that makes sense. Anyways it is a display screen. Dont know about navigation as she does not have that. It shows the temp outside and avg mpgs, and stuff like that. Im guessing that there is some kind of chemical over the plastic. Or maybe its not plastic

                          Re: PlastX problem on gauges

There is a non-glare coating on those screens, that is what has been removed in the dark area.

As stated previously, your best route is to polish off the rest of the coating. Then go to Amazon and type in 'screen protector'. You can buy it by size or by the sheet. It's a thin film that adheres by static to protect plastic screens on things like; camera displays screens, LCD monitors, GPS displays, etc. Find one that has a non-glare coating, buy it, cut it to size and install it. Good as new. If it gets scratched-up in the future, just remove and replace.

Just remember, as I'm sure you will, this experience. Most LCD displays have this coating to prevent the sun from washing out the screen in direct sunlight. The Meguiar's Pro line Clear Plastic Detailer M18 works great to clean these screens. I use it on all of my displays; car, camera, GPS, computer monitor, TV, etc. The Clear Plastic Cleaner M17 works for very light scratches and with a very light hand will not remove the coating. As always, test a small spot before doing the whole screen.
