PC Brushes

Heard about them. Never thought I get them. I just got three new (new to me) scrub brushes for my PC. The white bristle brushes are for carpet. Never used the PC for carpet cleaning yet. The black bristle brush is for plastic or something. Ordered them from Top of the Line. I hope to use them this weekend.

Anyone have tips, tricks, pics, or success stories to share about using these things??

Hey,

My only fear would be the little pieces of sand in the carpet like to fly everywhere when agitated. As such, some may fly up into the counter weight area or other little crevices on the PC. If these particles come out when using the PC for polishing paint....

I would be sure to clean the PC thoroughly after using it with a brush just in case!

Most vehicle fabrics are comprised of nylon or olefin. Leather and wool (natural fibres) require more delicate care, and will be discussed later. Carpet and upholstery can be cleaned using three methods; a) hand cleaning, b) an orbital buffer with brush attachment c) machine extraction. The hand cleaning method remains most popular due its cost effectiveness and reasonable performance (for Leather Cleaning section 11)
Heated water breaks down water-soluble soiling faster, as it reduces overall chemical usage because it reduces the surface tension of the fibre. Heat acts as a catalyst promoting quicker reactions between chemicals and the soil. Use the hottest water available (it also helps to pre-spray the carpet with hot water)
As with all chemical cleaners test on an inconspicuous area before use to ensure colourfastness of materials before using, find the pH of the chemical you are using to ensure its compatibility and wither it contains any harsh detergents, bleach, acid or strong alkali

b) Using an orbital buffer with brush attachment:
·Vacuum area very thoroughly to remove any loose dirt, grit and etc
·Remove any stains with 303™ Spot Remover & Cleaner
·Use a pre-cleaner solution diluted 10:1 distilled hot water/ P21S Total Auto Wash let solution dwell for 5-10 minutes to enable cleaners to react
·With an random orbital buffer (speed #4) and a brush attachment scrub area
·Attach a terry-cloth bonnet and go over areas changing the bonnets frequently
·Use a rubber bristle brush go over the material to raise the fibres
·Vacuum carpets/upholstery or use an extractor to remove excess moisture
·Allow to thoroughly dry before use

That does help... I took your advice from Autopia and purchased the Aztec extractor. Great machine. I will be utilizing the buffer and extractor for carpet cleaning.

By reading the above I think I might need to change my procedure for how I clean carpets.

My new steps will be
1. Vac
2. Pretreat stains
3. Pre spray the area with hot water from the extractor
4. Apply Meguiar's APC with a towel to ensure even coverage (the foaming nozzel doesn't fan to well)
5. Agitate with the PC
6. Rinse and extract

I will try the P12S soap at a later time, I currently don't own that product. I will try the spot cleaner you recommended too.

Jon's posts are always very detailed and helpful. Just to add to what Jon wrote, Meguiar's makes two very, very effective carpet, fabric and upholstery cleaners. One in our Consumer Line and one in our Professional Detailer Line.

All Purpose Cleaner



Both of these Meguiar's product can be substitute for the 303 product and the All Purpose Cleaner can be substituted for the P21S Total Auto Wash.

Just thought since this was a Meguiar's forum I would suggest some Meguiar's products that could be substituted in place of the ones Jon lists for any Meguiar's fans reading this.

This was quite dirty when I got it with general muck and dirt that you would expect on a 98 car with 51K fitted with light grey carpets (only wish I took some before photos).

I used the stuff in a pink bottle (well two bottles actually) the carpets were hand scrubbed with a stiff brush and sucked dry with a aqua vac a neighbour lent me. The floor mats had the same treatment followed by a jet wash and then repeated. With the exception of heel wear even the drivers mat came out very well.

The stuff also worked great at removing shoe marks on the plastic trim on the back of the seats.

Thanks for the product info. The APC I use is from Meguiar's. I would like to try the Meg's Carpet cleaner one day too.
