I have been using Quik Detailer, and it's been fine, but should I be using some type of aluminum polish, or something specifically for metal to keep this looking new?

I'd be a little hesitant to use a metal polish unless needed, esp if there is some kind of brushing, or texture, etc.
Using the QID is good, and could use a wax or cleaner/wax for a little protection if wanted.
that's what I was thinking. There is a textured feel to it, and since it's not exposed to elements, I'm more inclined to leave it alone and just use the QID, unless something happens to it otherwise. Thanks for your help.

I'd agree with that approach. Being this is on the Genesis, I'd venture to say it is coated to prevent it from oxidizing or tarnishing (whatever aluminum does). If it is coated, you definitely don't want to go at it with an aluminum polish. I'd continue doing what you have been doing.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

It's on a 2009 BMW 328i. Unless the thing starts looking faded or oxidized, i'm not gonna put any metal polish on it.
