  • Leather Vinal Leatherette?

Here is the door of a 2009 V8 Hyundai Genesis Sedan. The door has 4 materials, we'll skip the obvious parts, but serious how the heck do I tell what is what? If I can't guess right, what do I put on this door panel as a dressing or protectant? Cleaning is not an issue as Quik interior detailer or APC, is fine, but as a dressing?

    1. I guess leather but not sure.

2.Obviously Vinyl, same as dashboard material.

    3. No idea, Leatherette is my guess.

    4. Leather is my guess again due to the softness and the stitching.

If I were you, I would just use Quik Interior Detailer Detailer on it. QID will leave the surface clean and protected.

QID has protecting properties? I thought it was just a cleaner. Also I have last years formula, not the new one, if that matters.

Came across similar stuff on different cars here. I'd go with Step 2 Leather Conditioner. At least its safe for both leather and vinyl as not all vinyl protectant are recommended to be used for leather.

Yup, you can use a leather cleaner/conditioner on leather or leatherette, with no damage, as long as it is all the smooth/shiny type, not like suede.

And yes, the newer QID has more protection.

You should go to dealer and ask them what it is to be sure. In the mean time I would treat it like it's leather.....

GC Leather cleaner/conditioner is great stuff and would work great on that.

I agree with Nappers. Use the leather cleaner/conditioner. Who knows, you probably will not get a straight answer anyways from the dealer, This way no harm will come to your interior.

I'm more of a separate leather cleaner, then dedicated conditioner kinda guy. Not that the all in one's don't work, it's a personal preference following the notion, jack of all trades master of nothing. Have you guys had any experience with Lexol products for leather and Vinylex?

Meguiar's official stance on product use on vinyl and leather is this:

You can use our leather care products on vinyl, but we recommend not using vinyl care products on leather.

It looks like you have some perforated material on some surfaces, so sticking with either our Gold Class Leather Cleaner & Conditioner Spray (applied to a microfiber towel and wiped onto the surface) or our new Gold Class Rich Leather Gel, primarily because it won't dry white in the perfs like the Gold Class Leather lotion can.

Is it the silicone in the vinyl care products that makes it unfavorable to use on leather?

No, silicone has nothing do with it. Leather just requires some more specialized, and more expensive, ingredients than vinyl. These ingredients won't hurt the vinyl, but they aren't necessary for a vinyl care product. Better to use a slight overkill product on one surface than a not-quite-sufficient product on the other.

I've used and still use Lexol leather conditioner. I really like it, and it gives the leather a very supple feel.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I noticed they came out with an all in one cleaner, conditioner, protectant formula in a small 10 ounce spray. Does the Conditioner formula in the brown bottle have protection properties, or am I splitting hairs?
