  • How to renew soiled carpets

so lets say I am detailing a rather old or very well used vehicle. The customer asks for the carpets to be cleaned and shampooed to look like new. I have the little green machine, which I love very much. But no matter how many times I go over the carpet, it always oozes out more muck and scum! I have been using a few test carpets from a soccer mom's fifteen year old van and I have been extracting and shampooing then for weeks. The mud and dirt never seems to end! It is driving me crazy! What should I do to get it all out the quickest? I might even resort to throwing them in the washing machine if you guys say so! Ha Ha!

I try some APC and a carpet brush followed by a lot of bloting. Then go back over with the LGM.. I found a good deal on some @ BIGLOTS made by Mr.Clean. they rock.

How many times do you think you blot per floor mat?

Enough to use up @ least 2-4 or so dish sized towels. Then I use my shopvac to pull out more liquid.

Look for threads by SHYNEMAN on the topic. Frank is awesome at cleaning carpets and floor mats. Mostly he's using hot water, some APC, a brush and 5hp Ridgid shop vac to do the work.

He basically dry vaccums the area first, then puts down a little hot water, a spray of APC, then brushes thoruoghly and then uses the vac to draw the moisture up.

If you can find some of his work, you'll see this simple method is highly effective.

This is one of Frank's suggestions that really worked for my carpet. Especially the problem of wetting a stain and the final wipe down. I read that if you wet the carpet too much it just brings up the stain as it dries.
