Leather Repairs

Good morning all,
I have leather seats in my stang and use Meguiars products to care for them. However, I have still developed cracks in the leather. They are on the drivers seat, side panel. Can anyone give me some help on how to repair these without going to a professional?

I haven't a clue as to how to repair worn leather except to replace it.

Maybe someone else has more expertise in this area.

Yeah once it's cracked it's done. If you get it replaced clean and condition monthly and it will last many many times longer. A friend of mine has a custom katzkin interior in his car, and they use nice thick leather. He has cared for it very well, and with about 40,000 miles on it you would sware the whole interior is still brand new.

Once there is cracking as opposed to wrinkles replacement may be the only option.

For future reference an often-missed step is UV Protection- you should consider additional sunscreen protection (especially if you own a convertible) Leather conditioners typically do not offer any UV screening. The best solution is to alternate between a leather conditioner and 303 Aerospace Protect rant. One month use a conditioner to keep the leather healthy and supple. On alternate months mist and wipe the leather with 303 protectant to add UV protection. After application allow an hour for product to cure, then using a 100% cotton cloth lightly buff surface.

Leather repair


Just to let you know it is not actual leather they place into the crack I have a company I subcontract to to repair leather and it looks as good as new however it is as hard as a rock it is not pourus in any way and therefor it will not break / crack there again however it will crack around the repair if you own the car long enough the coloring is very good but you can still see the mend Also everyone is right if this is a show car or a car you plan to keep until it is a antique you want the seat repaired by a leather shop .. However the smartest thing to do is order the seat cover from the dealer .... Sense you live in Virginia I will one up you call my shop ask for Bill 703-771-7495 and I will get the info for the car and you can pay my cost plus shipping . Sense you are a meguairs online type of guy....

I just had a leather seat cover replaced and had a question and found this thread, so here it is. The new cover is from the dealership and was put on by dealership looks good except for the fact that it looks allot looser than the original. I questioned this and was told it takes some use to get it tighnen up. I would of thought this would loosen it up, not tighen it, but they are suppose to be the experts so I will give them the benifit of the doubt. has any one else ran in to this ? is it correct info that I was given?thanks y'all

i got a big leather problem myself

my seats are pretty badly worn
a common thing on mazda 929 and it already was that way when i bought it.


however, i want to color them in black...

can't stand the tan color...
now about all the cracks is it possible to fill those cracks and color the seats then?
or will it show at the seems?
i will replace the really bad panels before coloring them.
i never done this before and i just found one site online...

Hello carpanic! Welcome to MOL! We're very glad to have you aboard!!

While you're leather panels could be replaced, I have a hunch that your best bet is to move forward with securing new seat covers. Of course, this decision would be dictated by how much money that you're wanting to spend.

Meguiar's makes excellent products and I wholeheartedly feel that the leather could be brought back to some condition, it's seemingly in pretty rough shape based on the pictures you've shown. The leather that you have is, most likely, a clear-coated variety and, like clear coating on paint, once it's worn through, it's a tough fix to get it back to par with dying and such.

I'm not sure if you've consulted with an automotive upholstery specialist but, I'd certainly bounce some ideas off some of those folks, in person, to see what they have to say...

yes i have asked someone ... he quoted me 8to 900 dollars for recovering the seats.
mazda thinks it would be over 1 grand to get covers...( i am not sure if i got that right...) but if it is so then that is way out of question for a 93 mazda 929 , which i bought for 1.500...

I changed my car over from cloth seats to leather seats last winter. I bought my covers through a company called AutoLeathers.

This is a great company that makes a high quality product. I bought the leather seats for $700. This includes front seats, rear seats, door panels, and center console.

The best thing about this company is you can get 100% leather covers. Many companys use a mix of leather and vinyl. They also sell vinyl if you're looking for a cheaper alternative.

Remember, a big cost of changing your seats is the installation cost. I did mine by myself and saved about $400.
