OK, well I don't have an extractor or whatever, so here is my process for carpet cleaning: vacuum up loose debris, hit with APC+, scrub the bejesues out of it, dump water over the cleaned region, scrub again, vacuum up water, hit it again with more water and then vacuum up the rest, move on to the next area. I have a pretty sturdy 6.25HP shop vac so suction power is not in question.

Re: Cleaning Question
I'd definitely skip the water dumping part. That can get under the carpet and cause mildew problems. I just hit up dirty areas of the carpet in my car with a little carpet cleaner whenever I'm cleaning the interior, and I've never really had to go back and do a thorough cleaning on them. You might consider doing that after you've given them a thorough cleaning.Shane

Re: Cleaning Question
The best way to remove dirt, after the vacuuming & scrubbing with APC+, spray on foam, etc., is to wet a small terry towel / rag...wring the water out of it, and re-scrub the carpet by hand.
Keep a clean bucket of water on hand to dunk the rag in...wring it out again, and go over the area, again & again. After a while, you will begin to see the water in the bucket turn very dirty. Change it if necessary and repeat until satisfied.
Later on, after the carpet dries, you can come back and vacuum up any loose dirt residue. This method does a fantastic job on cloth seats as well.
This is my product of choice for carpets & cloth upholstery...
...but I would like to see Meguiars come out with a spray on foam too.r. b.

This stuff is pure awesome. Takes out grease on floor mats like it isn't even there...
