  • Greasy Leather

I need to know how to remove the greasy, glossy look from certain parts of the interior. Take a look at this head-rest. The leather part looks matte, but the the fake leather part looks greasy. Its really sticky. I also tried Z1 Deep plastic/vinyl cleaner and it did not take it off. I think I used too much Meguiars Gold Class leather cleaner on it in the past, now it won't come off.

I have tried chemical guys green clean 3:1, let it dwell and wiped it off. Still won't come off.

    Heres how it looks now:

Heres how the leather part looks and how I want the rest to look:

There is certainly a time and place to try some Dawn, this might be one.

But you are saying the underside is leather, and the visible side is fake? Just a little surprised, it is often the other way around.

I think the part your head hits and the bottom is leather, the rest it fake. Regardless I need the grease cleaned up.

How about APC undiluted with a brush?

          I CAN'T BELIEVE I FOUND A THREAD THAT "Eddie6th" HASN'T POSTED ON!

I'd also use a APC on it.

I agree.............. APC should remove the protectant.

Could I use a Meguiar's All-Surface Interior Brush on it?

                  Re: Greasy Leather

OK got some LA's Awesome apc. Tried different dilutions, starting with 16:1 and working up to 3:1. I would spray it on agitate it, let it sit for 2 minutes, scrub it with the Meguiars brush, and then wipe with a terry towel. After multiple applications it will still not clean off the Meguiars Gold class. Do I need a stronger APC?

I too have the same problem in my car also. I have tried many things but none of them worked perfectly.

Did you try dawn? Try that as it is made to cut grease on dishes, so it should hopefully have the same affect and cut the grease on the leather.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                      Remove swirls my friends.

I'd use Castrol Super Degreaser in the purple bottle. I think it is now just Super Degreaser. It can be found at Wal-Mart or any of the auto parts chain stores. Use it full strength with a terry cloth rag or towel. After you remove the grease, wipe it with a damp cloth to remove any degreaser residue. Finish up with some leather protectant. You don't want your leather drying out and cracking because you've removed oils from it and didn't replace them. Kind of like putting lotion on dry skin.
