  • Meguiars APC (Green stuff)

    Hello,

I'm about to buy a gallon of Meg's APC (Green stuff). Anyway, I was just curious how well this stuff works on the interior of the car? I have light interior, and my door panels tend to get really dirty looking. Is this stuff TOTALLY safe for all interior surfaces? I know that the web site states that it is, but I want to make sure before I spray something that shouldn't be sprayed

Also, for dirty door panels, what ratio of Meg's APC to water would you suggest?

Lastly, does anyone use this stuff to wipe down their leather seats? I have a 2007 Acura TSX with semi analine leather in the middle (perforated seats), and vinyl on the rest - would this stuff work, or should I stick with my Zaino Z-9 cleaner?

    Thanks again!

    Jeff

    Re: Meguiars APC (Green stuff)

    I mix mine around 7:1.

As far as interior, I use APC+ as it's low foaming and easier to rinse. I do use APC for panels on the interior as I usually rip them out and wash/dry/dress.

On leather, do a test spot see how it does. With the perferations, I would lightly spray and use a microfiber cloth to extract and condition the leather with either the GC leather cleaner/conditioner or the two step leather cleaner and then the conditioner.

I just used APC+ on leather seats on a Dodge Ram mixed to my 7:1 (no perfs) and sprayed, cleaned with MF towel, rinsed with MF towel (I use a bucket with rinse water), let it dry and conditioned with GC leather cleaner/conditioner, turned out beautiful.

      Re: Meguiars APC (Green stuff)

So, anything that I spray the APC on, or apply via a microfiber towel sprayed with APC on will need to be rinsed afterwards with clean water? I thought I could just spray the APC (probably will use the 10:1 ratio), and then just wipe it dry and I was done?

Also, how do I know if I need a 10:1 or a 4:1 ratio of the APC? I only purchased one mixing bottle, so I'm not really sure which ratio to go with. Perhaps I should have purchased another mixing bottle?

Lastly, does the APC totally wash out of the microfiber towels when I throw them in the washing machine? I guess my question is, if I use a microfiber towel with APC to clean the interior, then wash the microfiber towel, can I then use it to remove wax on my car? Or, should I keep the APC towels separate from my waxing/polishing towels?

      Thanks guys!

        Hello again,

After some searching, I learned that I should have ordered the APC plus, instead of the green APC - DOH!

Also, I read Mike's comments in regards to using Terry Towels instead of microfiber towels for some extra scrubbing power. Do you still suggest the Terry's over the Microfibers?

Lastly, will the microfibers work on tought dirt spots, or is it not even worth using them?

        Thanks!

The normal APC might still work fine. It "bubbles" a little bit with vigorous scrubbing, but it can be wiped away.

As for towel type, I use both terry and microfiber and found them to be fairly interchangeable.

APC + microfiber works on tough spots most of the time for me- it obviously varies depending on what the stain is, and what it is on.

In my experience, I always rinse a cleaner off with fresh water. I basically scrub with a MF towel with the cleaner, rinse the towel off and rinse that off and if needed do a final wipe. Leather, plastics, don't matter what I use them on.

When I clean fabric seats or carpet, I spray, scrub, rinse rag soak up cleaner/dirt then rinse rag again and soak rag and saturate the area with water and extract and rinse again and extract (shop vac). Be careful, too much water and you go into the foam or insulation if your doing seats/rug, I check to see if the rug has rubber underneath the carpet. I did this on our Neon and the seats/carpet were dry by the end of my detail. I didn't flood the area with water, I just wanted to dilute the cleaner enough to extract it all. The rug/fabric comes out clean and soft and not sticky at all.

It's handy to have two bottles of cleaner in case you need something stronger to get out a stain or whatever.

Just remember to dilute it right

How to properly dilute Meguiar's Detailer Line products

I dilute my cleaners at 7:1, I fill the water to the normal fill line you will see in Mike's dilute thread and top off to the first ring on the neck with cleaner (28oz of water, 4oz of product for an easy to use 32 oz of product). Most dilute as shown in the thread as the marks on the bottle make it easier.

This chart by Bluezero makes it handy to dilute products to your liking

I wash my MF towels all together in hot water, normal Tide liquid, no softner and dry on permanent press heat and no matter the amount of towels, they come out dry. I also throw in a cup of vinegar during the rinse cycle once in a while to bring out the fluffiness.....No need to separate the towels, long as they are cleaned. Others I've read use woolite or other soaps. If my microfibers are pretty dirty, I throw in a little Dawn dishsoap and rinse twice if a lot of wax removing is involved to make sure they get clean.

I have both products, APC+ is a lower foaming product that is easy to use on fabric seats, carpets and the like. It's easy to rinse and extract without major foaming. I use APC on door jambs, tires once in a while and interior plastics I remove to clean. It's a great product and I think I use it more than APC+. I also dilute it 7:1 (28oz water, 4oz of product).

I use MF towels as they seem better to soak up any soap, water you use and when you extract, there's not a lot of water to extract. I do use terry cloths when I clean as they do work well. I used MF towels on a recent detail of a Dodge Ram when I cleaned the leather seats using APC+ as the seats weren't too bad.

Terry cloths are just fine. I have both in my arsenal. I just recently bought some Soft Buff Terry Cloths and wish I bought them earlier. I have the bulk terry cloths from Costco and they are fine, but I would not use them on paint! They are kinda scratchy (Verizon commercial....). Also, if you do buy those bulk towels, wash and dry them a couple of times, you won't believe what lint comes out of those puppies, it's amazing there are towels left after the lint!

            Have fun!

Thanks for all of the responses, guys! You're always so helpful on here

I have another question. When you use the Green APC, do you spray it directly on what you're going to clean and then start scrubbing, or do you spray the microfiber/terry towel and then start scrubbing?

              Thanks much!

              Jeff

P.s. Is this stuff pretty effective at cleaning up dirty door panels? I've been using Meg's Quick interior detailer with not much success...

                Re: Meguiars APC (Green stuff)

I am pretty new to APC (got my first jug a few months ago) and find it really useful to clean just about everything... Imagine that!

I used it to scrub my carpets in my car after vacuuming and some trim areas... I never rinse after with water, I just use the 10-1 dilution ratio and never have a problem once it dries. Plus on the interior, smells good and fresh for a few days after! Especially after doing carpets/seats. I don't use it on my dash and stuff though (quick interior detailer for that!).

Love it! Plus, can use it for just about anything inside the house as well!

I would definitely like terry clothes over microfiber for cleaning leather and vinal.

                    Re: Meguiars APC (Green stuff)

I tend to spray on whatever is more appropriate, if that makes sense.

For instance, on a car dash or door panel, I will try to spray the cloth, so I dont have APC running everywhere.

On a steering wheel or panel that is bad, I might spray onto the wheel/area to soak it more, but have the cloth behind/under as I spray, so nothing oversprays or drips.

But I just cleaned the roof and sides of the parents Rubbermaid shed with APC, and I just sprayed it all over each section and worked it in with a brush.
