  • Question about leather seat and console

I need some advice/clarification about my leather seats and console in my 07 Tahoe.

Console: I use Meguiar's Leather wipes on the console and seats about once a month. However, after a week to 10 days my arm rubs a spot on the console that becomes dull and discolored. QID does not help with this issue. Should I just continue to touch it up with the leather wipes as needed or is there a better product to use? I also touch up the driver's seat along with the console. By doing this am I conditioning the seat too often?

Seat: I have a small area of discoloration on my driver's seat due to belt or pants rubbing off. Would APC diluted 4:1 agitated with a soft toothbrush followed by leather wipes be the best way to clean this?
I think there is another member (gb387?) with a Avalanche with similar leather that used that method, but I cannot relocate the post that I read that in.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hey RXZ71

On the part on your center console where it becomes dull and discolored from your arm try using some APC and then follow up with your Meguiars Leather Wipes and maintain it every day with Quik Interior Detailer so that way your cleaning it off everyday and still protecting the surface.

As for your leather, try APC with a microfiber cloth and then follow up with the Meguiars Rich Leather Wipes.

And are you sure your center console is leather? is it vinyl?

    i hope this helps

These 3 product will be safe on Vinyl or leather, just use APC at a lower dilution like you mentioned.

Thanks for all the info Tuck. I will try the APC and maybe get some of the Aloe Conditioner as well. Time for another ADS order!

My dad has a belt mark on his Avalon drivers seat. Its not budging....

But yeah, using a little stronger cleaner and conditioner will be better than the wipes in well used areas.

i have used the Gold Class Rich Leather Wipes before and was suprised by the nice uniform appearance it left behind. I thought it performed very well considering they were wipes. Heres my leather workout bench after cleaning and conditioning with the Gold Class Rich Leather Wipes

I too was suprised by how well the leather wipes did. I may use the stronger product on the driver seat/console area and the wipes on all other seats that are not used daily and see how that does. Just to clarify, the correct dilution of APC for the leather would be 4:1.

Hmm... I will have to use my wipes. I have had some for a while, but never opened them because I hate Armor All's Wipes.

You would probably want to start milder than 4:1 APC for general cleaning.

                        Especially on leather.

I used APC 7:1 on my boy's 67 Dodge p/u with vinyl interior that was just nasty, it was pretty good vinyl and I actually used GC leather cleaner and it came out nice.

Shoot! thought I uploaded the pictures (ongoing extreme makeover) but the seats were nasty and like I said, turned out beautiful!

Re: Question about leather seat and console

                          Update:

I got some APC and Rich Leather Aloe Cleaner and Conditioner to try to solve my problems.

                          Seat:
I tried the Leather Cleaner first and that helped little, but did not clear it up so I tried some APC at 10:1. This removed more of the discoloration, but some still remained. I then used the leather condtioner to finish up. I think having a good cleaning regimen from the beginning would have prevented this spot on my seat. I was satisfied with the results of the products I used and I will know better for next time.

                          Console:
I used the leather cleaner and then followed with the condtioner and wiped clean with a terry towel. This seemed to do the trick. It was not as "shiny" as I would have liked, however the console looks good and is not becoming discolored due to my arm rubbing on it. I think there was some leftover product that needed to be removed in order for the Meguiar's products to apply and work properly.

Thanks to all who gave advice.

glad to see everything worked out. If you want you could maintain your leather and console with Quik Interior Detailer so it is unlikely to discolor again
