  • Carpeted floor mat cleaning

I had read on another forum that some people have taken their carpeted floor mats to a laundromat and washed them in a large capacity front end loader washer using a mild detergent such as woolite.

Do any of you do this or think it's a bad idea?

No, but mine dont get that bad really. I just wash, soap or APC, and rinse them on the driveway if needed.

But if they got bad, it probably isnt a bad idea.

I use Meg's Quik Out and a bucket of clean soap, and a good brush. Then i use my shop vac for the water and set them out in the sun. BTW: How A.R. is this...I have to stripe the floor mats horizontally with the vac. And if I mess it up I start all over again! Oh god I need help!

Well I did something like this.

I took our floor mats and washed them in the tub. Using warm water and Purex non scented laundry soap. To agitate the mats, I used a Meguiars carpet and upholstery brush.

After washing and rinsing them a couple of times, I rinsed them 2 more tome.

Then I rolled them up. Placed them in a five gallon bucket, took them to our wash machine. Loaded them with the nap side against the drum wall. Ran the spin/rinse cycle.

Took them out on our balcony and let the sun dry them.

        They turned out great.

That is a brilliant idea! How could I have not thought of that sooner?

JA, I just did something similar to what you just described! Minus the washing machine on spin cycle.

The front mats were really dirty, but unfortunately they are so old and stained that nothing seems to help. I thought I'd throw this question out to everyone so that I could find a better way to wash carpeted floor mats.

Now.....if I could just find someone with a new set of front carpeted mats for an 01' ES300!

You might be surprised at how reasonable they might be at the dealer's.
Both GM and Ford OEM replacements are not that bad. I haven't purchased any for a Mopar for several years, but they didn't rip your head off back then.
It might even be worth checking eBay.

Yes, I tried the dealer, and they want close to $100 for a set. That's part of the problem with the "high end" name brands. And, I did try Ebay. They have knock offs. I'll wait.

I can not take full credit for it. I read it on mol about 3,4 years ago. Itried it and it worked. Just thought I would pass it along.

                  Thanks.

If mine need to be cleaned, I use APC+ and the Meguiar's Carpet Brush, scrub, then use an extractor and sun-dry. To just vacuum, take 'em inside and use the household vaccum. Can't beat it; the beater brush really gets them good.

                          Re: Carpeted floor mat cleaning

Most of these replies seem to refer to removable floor mats. My problem is with the carpeting. No matter what I put on the floor in the winter i.e. "pantsavers", I still get salt residue on the carpeting. Any ideas how to get the white stuff out?

I used APC+ and just scrubbed it very well with an old terry cloth towel. I repeated this process 2-3 times and my salt residue was gone. I have to do it now but this time I'm going to use a brush, probably the megs brush.
