  • proper way to condition leather..

Im going to use Lexol cleaner and conditioner to do the leather int of my BMW. BMW's leather is one of the best one I seen in a car, but the car is 1 1/2 year old now so I think its due for one.

The cleaner is pretty straight forward.. wipe on with a good cloth or MF towel, and clean off the residue.

but as far as the conditioner goes.. Im thinking of applying it with a sponge and letting it sit for a few minutes then wiping it clean with a MF towel. Is this the best way to dio it??

Applying the conditioner with a MF towel might be a bit easier, not sure. But I use an MF towel.

When treating leather, I like to clean them the best I can and then I use a foam pad and apply the leather conditioner, let it sit for a couple of minutes and then with a MF towel remove the excess

Sounds about right. Apply, gently work in and over the surface, allow product to penetrate for a few minutes and then wipe off any residue using a clean, soft microfiber polishing cloth.

Microfiber works great for removing trace residue of just about any liquid off surfaces.

Whenever I condition leather (for somebody else - none of our personal cars have leather) I use an old leather chamois that I cut in half. I find that works really good.

I like to use my hands to work the conditioner in the leather. For cleaning I use APC and the interior brush. Works great

Ditto on using bare hands. I apply Lexol conditioner that way, and it not only wastes less of the conditioner, but it makes it easier to work in to the seams and crevices, and provides a lot of control when it comes to keeping the stuff off of things it shouldn't be applied to.

...Plus it makes my hands all soft and smooth, which cuts down on the whole "Velcro" action between my hands and the microfiber towels. Besides, the wife likes it, too.

i use a regular shop rag, the colored mechanic type rag. then park the car out in the sun for a while which seems to help the leather absorb the conditioner.

wont a MF towel absorb all the conditioner that your trying have the leather absorb?

                  I use a terry towel.
The leather seats that I clean and condition are abused and stain. I do not want to waste my precious microfiber towels on that.

i use older microfibers for leather that i dont care if they get ruined or destroyed, if they do i just use them for drying tires or wheel wells when washing, its like a chain of microfiber quality, they start good but after a while and a lot of use they go down in the chain.
