  • Glass: Interior Rear Defroster Grid

How do I clean interior rear glass to avoid damage to the Defroster Grid wires that I can feel with my fingernails?

    I am a chain-smoker with 1994 LS400 Lexus.
    (Newbie-first post)

15 year old car never detailed and dont want to hurt old defroster wires glued to glass: do I use only horizontal strokes, and no verticle strokes? Q-tips? Will NXT Window Cleaner spray harm defroster grid wires?

Hard to contort my body and hand to wipe interior rear window... have to kneel on seat and use back of my hand to hold cloth against glass, or lie on seat and use back handed, back reach method? Any Tips?

    Hi Rick, welcome to MOL!

Class cleaners should not harm the defroster grid on a factory setup. The only tools you want to be careful with would be razors or steel wool- or anything that could physically scrape or scratch the grid, causing a severed connection.

As for technique, I tend to turn my hand upside down, place the towel in my hand, and do my best from there.

    Hope this helps.

I have read in the past use only horizontal strokes when cleaning glass with a defroster grid on it. I follow that advice. Never have had a issue with the rear defroster.

I just wipe any which way until the window is clean? It has worked flawlessly so far...
