  • Carpet removal for cleaning

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Extra Cab pickup with the center console. I'd like to be able to remove the carpet on the driver's side for cleaning if it isn't too much trouble.

Does anyone know of any schematics, detailed instructions or other helpful information that would allow me to see what would be involved in removing the carpet? For example, I can't tell if the console would have to be removed or if its split in the middle. Also, for things like removing the seat do you need special tools?

    Regards...

The carpet is a once piece unit. If its really that bad it would make more sense to buy a replacement carpet and put that in.

      AeroCleanse:

      Thanks for the response.

The carpet isn't that bad. I thought it would be easier to clean if removed from the truck but it now appears that it would be best to clean it while in the truck. I'm assuming that removing the console and both front seats would be too much trouble.

      Regards...

Its faster to clean it in the truck.

Anytime you remove carpet seats MUST be removed ..
Some carpets can be so dirty that removal and pressure wash is called to order, which is not fun..

If my carpet was that bad, I'd just buy a new one.

It would be easier to remove the seats and console so you can clean the whole carpet, compared to having to remove all of the interior trim necessary and possible have to cut the carpet to remove it...

You have to remove all that stuff to take the carpet out anyway, so it really depends on how bad the carpet is.

What I am saying though is taking the 2 seats out and the console may be easier as you will have access to the entire carpet. Then to go on and have to remove all of the trim pieces and possibly having to cut the carpet to get it out may just not be worth the hassle unless you are replacing it of course.

Save yourself some grief if you aren't replacing it.

I know what you are saying and I agree, if the seats are really inhibiting you from getting to an area that is really bad or doing a good job then by all means taking them out is a option. Taking just the seats out shouldn’t be that difficult, of course not all seat removal is going to have the same level of difficulty.

Very true! Since I did in fact have to completely remove the carpet out of my Neon last week (due to a faulty taillight seal => flooded interior and trunk, ugh), the seat removal on that isn't too bad at all but I had to cut the carpet under the dash to pull it out. What a pain....
