  • Shop Vac Question?

Im in the market for getting a shop vac for some detailing jobs i need to do. So, my question is when looking at vacs for the interior of vehicles what are some of the specs you guys recommend or that i should be looking for? Also, what brands are good and which do you think lack or should I say whats maybe the best bang for the buck?

Thanks in advance for everyones input

    Re: Shop Vac Question?

I absolutely love my Ridgid WD1450! It's a 6 hp 14 gallon pro model. It's powerful and pretty quite. I've been using it around the house doing some remodeling and it works great for that too. If it's small enough to fit in the end it will **** it up, tools included. I've had to fish a few out of the tank. I have a gravel drive way so lots of little rocks get tracked into my garage, I even use it to vacuum my garage floor.

Only downside I could think of is it's a bit big. 28 inches tall and 20 inches wide.

Edit: Almost forgot... It comes with a Full Lifetime Warranty too! Wow now I sound like one of those infomercial sales guys. lol

      Re: Shop Vac Question?

My two-cents: I've been happy with a Shop-Vac I got from Lowe's at the end of last year. It's a 5.75 HP with a 16-gallon tank and also has a pump feature that is useful for certain applications I have. It has done great with all kinds of projects around the garage and house and in the car. I've gotten a couple attachments and created a few others for several unique jobs.

I am especially happy with it due to a week I wasn't happy with it. It developed a problem and I contacted Shop-Vac and got very fast, friendly, helpful customer service and all new Shop-Vac "guts" for it within a week. Their warranty really worked and they were happy to help me out and provided a fix no-sweat and in a flash! They've got me as a customer for that alone--and as a happy recommender--plus the fact that apart from that week, it works great.

You're not related to Billy Mays are you?

I have a Shop-Vac, 3 HP, 20 Gallon, that I have had for 0ver 10 years & I love it. I replaced the cloth filter with a pleated filter & I would recommend it for anyone. I switched when we built our new house & was cleaning up after the drywallers. The drywall dust was blowing out almost as fast as it was being sucked up, but after I switched to the pleated filter all the dust was contained to the drum of the vac. The only down side is the filter needs to be cleaned frequently. I use mine in my wood shop so maybe that has something to do with having to clean the filter often.

I had a Shop Vac brand unit and it failed on me. I got a Craftsman unit, a 16 gallon one. Its very quite and was something like $70 on sale when I got it. I also added the car kit to it, which has a smaller hose that connects to the larger one that comes with the vac, and a few extra attachments.

They make a filter bag for the ShopVac that is awesome for drywall and other fine dust. I highly recommend them for remodels or any job where you want absolutely no dust leaving the vac.

I use a 4.5hp 5 gallon shop vac that is great. Small, light and great power. Though I think you have to step up to a 6 gallon to get the 4.5hp now.
