Cleaning Armour All from the Interior and Weatherstripping

In a low-cost attempt to fix a window rattle in my convertible, the Toyota dealer sprayed all the weatherstripping that contacted the windows with Armour All. The interior wasn’t well protected, so it’s on the dash and other plastic parts. I’m afraid when I see the car in daylight that it may be on the headliner fabric, and possibly on my sheepskin seat covers.

I’ve never heard any car-knowledgeable person say anything good about Armour All, and I’d like to do what I can to clean it off. I’d like to hear any suggestions for getting it off the weatherstripping and dash. I’ve got # 40 Vinyl Cleaner out in the garage, but I’m not sure if that’ll break down the Armour All.

Anyone have any experience cleaning Armour All from weatherstripping and car interior surfaces??? :

Well, if it were me, I'd wipe down with some APC, then go over with the #40.

Armor All gets a very bad, and mostly undeserved, reputation. It won't hurt anything - it's basically just a water based dressing, albeit a pretty high shine product. #40 should get rid of it just fine, however.

Probably the two most common misconceptions about AA are 1) it contains silicones so it will dry out your dash, and 2) it turns your tires brown.

Hogwash. This product is maligned as frequently as Zaino is overhyped.

Armor All gets a very bad, and mostly undeserved, reputation. It won't hurt anything - it's basically just a water based dressing, albeit a pretty high shine product. #40 should get rid of it just fine, however.

I didn't know it was water-based - what I'd heard from more than one source was that its solvent base was the potential cause for trouble. I never heard it caused brown tires - isn't that from time, sun, and ozone?

APC is a detailer line product? I haven't found it mentioned anywhere but here -

You are absolutely correct, but there are those on the Internet who would have you believe that tire browning is caused by Armor All. As you've pointed out, it's a naturally occurring phenomenon.

I have a Solara 'vert and the same problems with rattles around the windows. I use #40 and a foam applicator on all of the rubber surrounding the windows. Best way is to have the top up, but roll down all 4 windows. That will give you access to all of the rubber. Let it dry some before you roll the windows back up.

Best way is to have the top up, but roll down all 4 windows. That will give you access to all of the rubber. Let it dry some before you roll the windows back up.

Thanks! Everything cleaned up with #40, but the rattle is still there, I'll give that a try
