  • Cleaned my leather(pics)...

My leather was showing some build up of dirt and such, so I gave them a good cleaning today. I used APC cut 10:1 and a Mr Clean magic sponge.

I didnt scrub the leather at all as I was worried it would wear through the skin, I just passed over it a couple time then wiped it clean with a wet MF.

The sponge was gray afterwards and Im hoping that was dirt and such and not dye in the leather. The seats look alot better so I assume no harm was done.

Its kinda hard to tell how dirty they were before and how much brighter and cleaner they are now. They look brand new. Ive had Wet-Okole seat covers on them for 2 out of the 4 years Ive had the Jeep but took them off last summer. I was going to put them back on this winter but it doesnt seem like winter is going to come.

Another thing to add. I went over the interior with QID and some of the plastic chrome pieces look like they have scratches all over them after using QID. They do not look like this before nor do they do this if I use something like Natural Shine.

    After QID:

I didnt get any before pics. I didnt think about it till after I used QID, nothing was on the piece before using QID. This is the only thing I dont like about qid..

Looks good. I need to clean mine really good again.

Maybe the dressing has covered the scratches up before? Either way, looking good.

its good to know, I bought similar sponge from ADS, mainly using for scuff marks on plastic parts, but never tried on chrome plastic. Great job!

I think the NS is covering up whereas the QID is revealing them.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Wow now, I didnt use the Mr Clean Eraser on the chrome plastic. Im not sure what that would do to the plastic, it may marr it up kinda bad.

Ill look into the plastic a little more. No one hardly rides on the passenger side so idk how that thing would be scratched up that bad. Ill take all the dressing off with some APC and see how they look sometime.

Looks great. The seats look better then new. Great work. Sorry to hear about the scratches in the plastic trim. Maybe the ns was masking them? once again great work on the seats.

Good job, but yes, it covered the blemishes that QS showed.

Ive done some reading lately and it seems like using a Magic Eraser on leather isnt a good idea. The sponge acts like fine sand paper and actually removes the finish on the leather and can remove pigment. My seats didnt seem to be any lighter after the cleaning but as you can see the eraser was gray.

Just putting it out there that I do not recommend doing this after reading on some other detailing forums.

Thanks for the heads up about magic eraser on the leather. Hope no harm was done to your seats.

I'm happy this post came up again, I don't think I saw it the first time around. I hate the finish on the plastic by the door locks. I never can get mine looking decent. I'll have to try natural shine on them.

I dont believe they were harmed. I didnt rub them hard at all and only went over the same area once. Its definitely something I will not be doing again though.

Bluezero, the fake chrome still looks ok after 4 years in my Jeep. Those scratches are really only visible in direct sunlight like that. I do have one scratch on the trim around the shifter that showed up after my dad rode with me for a little while. I posted a thread about trying to remove it awhile back but it just wont come out. Its really odd because you cannot feel it at all with your finger nail but it wont go away.

I think that APC is little too strong for leather, at least at theat strengh...I'd maybe use it at 20:1, or get a proper leather cleaner.
