  • Leather streaking issues.

    Hey guys,

I really need some help here. Ever since I got my 07 TSX, with ebony interior, I've been having problems with the leather. For some reason, everytime I condition it (Zaino Z-10), I am getting streaks on the center perforated leather piece. This is the biggest center piece, and no matter which way I apply the leather conidtioner, I get streaks. Sometimes I notice these more so after I, or someone else has gotten in and out of the car a few times. I think it's that I am not covering the whole section properly, but I take my time and sometimes I even apply the stuff a couple of times. Now today, I am noticing this one section that almost appears to be kind of whiteish.. Any ideas what that might be? I can't imagine that I've rubbed through the protective coating on the leather. My leather and pleather, only has 4,100 miles on it.... Any ideas? This is driving my crazy.

Well, considering this is a Meguiar's forum, I'll give you the Meguiar's answer.

I've used plenty of leather products, but I have achieved the best results with the Meguiar's GC Conditioner.

As for Zaino, have you thoroughly shaken the bottle? Maybe the product isn't being mixed enough...

I've only heard really good things about the Zaino leather care product so let's take a look at what you may or may not be doing wrong when compared to the instructions posted on Zaino's website:

            1. For best results, apply every 60-90 days.

            2. Just wipe on and let dry. No buffing is necessary.

            3. Do not use an excessive amount.

            4. Allow your leather to dry thoroughly before using.
I'm willing to bet your issues stem from either #3 or #4. That is, you're either using too much product or you're not letting it dry sufficiently before sitting in the seats. Either could lead to streaking and perhaps even the whitish areas you mentioned. Those may or may not be a reaction with the Z-10 and whatever cleaner you may have used prior to it. That is, I'm assuming you cleaned the seats before applying Z-10 since Z-10 is not a cleaner - how can it be if it's a simple wipe on and let dry product? Admittedly that theory is a shot in the dark, but hey, you're stumped and I'm brainstorming!!

Now, since you've come looking for help with one manufacturer's product at another manufacturer's forum, I can only assume you are an intelligent, fair and unbiased individual and would be willing to try something new. So here's what I'd suggest you try: go to Target or your local Sprawl Mart and pick up the Meguiar's Gold Class Rich Leather Aloe Cleaner & Gold Class Rich Leather Aloe Conditioner. Use as directed, perhaps a couple of applications of the cleaner, and see if that gets rid of the whitish residue being left behind. You'll only spend about $13 for everything (that beautiful new '07 TSX is well worth it) and your leather will love the treatment.

Report back with your findings if you don't mind.
