Leather conditioners

Hi,

I have used the Meguiar's Gold Class leather cleaner & conditioner once a month since I bought the car. Once this ran 14oz bottle ran out I purchased the same product but in the foam form for easier application. (Rich Foam Leather Cleaner & Conditioner)



The results where very poor. The seats have been left with a slippery residue that I cannot remove, they are shinny and feel hard. My seats have always been nice and soft and supple but after using the foam condition (I thought it was the same but a easier application) the leather is no good.

I am very dissapointed with this product.

I simple applied it then spread it out to provide a light even coating over the seat then removed all excess.

It doesn't seem to have been absorbed at all, only a surface coating which has resulted in the leather feeling stiff.

From reading the packaging they are supposed to be the same product with a different application method is this correct?

Is there anything I can do to remove this product and restore the soft supple feel and non shinny look that I once had?

Hi Damian,

Sorry to hear of your experience, I have forwarded the link to this thread to our Customer Care department so they can perhaps provide some insight.


As for removing, our Gold Class Leather Aloe Cleaner should re-clean the leather, or our Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner in the spray version, just spray a cloth to dampen it with product and then apply, work in and wipe off the excess residue.

Thank you for your reply.

I have seen the separate cleaner and condition on your website but not in stores.

I am located in Australia, I don't see why they wouldn't stock this item.

I will go by a few other automotive store to see if I can get some.

I am a little uncertain about using another spray type product after the experience with the Foam. I was thinking that perhaps the conditioner #2 could be used after cleaning.

What do you think?

If in doubt go to your local AutoBarn or Supercheap and they can order in most of the meguiars gear or if you are like me go to repco and they can do the same thing but they don't stock much meguiars onshelf compared to AutoBarn and Supersheap.

how about the bottles of meguiar leather cleaner with the aloe. isnt there 2 seprate bottle one for cleaner one for conditioner and r they anygood

Can the one step leather care be used on vynle? I have a bottle but don't have leather..

Leather cleaners can be used on vinyl but vinyl cleaners cannot be used on leather.

I used the Detailer stuff yesterday and it cleaned the leather great, left a decent smell and left the leather soft not hard. Only thing was, is that its a little slippery.

If you use a very very lightly damp cloth, that should help remove the slippery film.

Glad I read this thread. I’ve used the foam 1-step product in the past and sometimes my wife would complain about the texture it left. After discovering this forum and reading a lot, I purchased the separate cleaner and conditioner products mentioned above. I haven’t used them yet, but I did assure my wife that I would be able to better control the application with separate cleaning and conditioning products. Maybe I'll give it a shot this weekend.

I am looking for something to condition and protect my new leather seats, but after reading the very first post in this thread, not sure I want to try Meguiar's product. The last thing I want is shinny seats that become hard after using the product. Mike said he was going to take this to the Customer Care department last December, but that is the last information in this thread.

If you re-read the first paragraph of the first post it seems that the problem came about using the foam stuff. I've used Gold Class cleaner/conditioner (as the first poster did) each week for over a year on my leather seats, steering wheel and shift knob with great results. the leather is supple and clean without being slippery. I rub a little in with a microfiber applicator then polish off with a terry towel and the seats look, feel and smell just as when new.

Haven't tried the foam or professional line products (sticking with what works) but did try the leather wipes once and was not impressed and went back to what worked best....for me anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I did notice that the foam version was used, however, I concluded that the foam is the same stuff as the non-foam, and would produce the same results...ie shinny hard leather. Maybe I will try the regular version, on the wife's car first. Thanks.

Oh the shame. I would never do such a thing....since my wife and I only have one car. Tried it on my daughters car first.

Just a tip....like most Meguiars products, it doesn't require a heavy application. A little goes a long way. The directions on the bottle are pretty straight forward. My seats are perforated (for the seat heater I guess) to that area gets the lightest application as I don't want to fill all those little holes with product. So far so good.
