  • Meguriar's protectants and cleaning action

All of Meguiar's protectants have cleaners in them. However, if you want to make sure that the latest product can work as it is supposed to, is it a good idea to remove the old protectant with #39 before applying the new?

It appears that the chemistry of each product is different. For example, all of the products that I have been "messing" with except NXT Tech Protect rinse right out of a foam applicator with just hot water. The NXT requires a little "boost" from Dawn.

Not sure about this, let me check.

Don't know if you can 100% remove a previously applied product to a porous surface like vinyl or leather, perhaps plastic. You could clean the surface to get it as clean as humanly possible. Not sure how much actual real-world difference it would make to completely remove say M40 before applying NXT Tech Protect to the vinyl material on the side of a door, but you could try and maybe see some type of difference? Don't know.

Been told the NXT product is water insoluble.

Well, #39, or some mild APC. Certainly the cleaners i nteh different protectants arent strong enough to cut through heavy grime, etc...

However, if I have applied Nxt for instance, and it has been on maybe a month, with a QID or two in between, I havent seen a need for a heavier cleaning before reapplying Nxt.

        Mike,

Thanks for checking on this. I'm not much of an interior guy although the interior of my truck is always clean and stain free. I somehow scuffed a part of the dash on my new Ram and have been messin' a bit with different products to mask the scuff mark. Natural Shine did a good job, but I decided to see if NXT Tec Protect would do better. If it's not water soluable, NXT might be the better choice. I frequently simply wipe down the interior with a damp towel. Do you think that Meguair's QID will take off some to the NXT if I choose to use it instead?

How many people can see the scuff? One -- me when I have my glasses on and the light hits the dash in just the right way.
